Default Keyless Entry: 1997 Legacy 2.5 GT

I was curious if you guys could point me in the right direction for a keyless entry system. I've looked around and I can't seem to find any. Would a '97 even be compatible with a keyless entry system?

Thanks for any help.

Okay thanks. Just to make sure, do all legacy's come with keyless entry? I'm pretty sure mine has it (it has a sticker in the front of the engine bay that says "This vehicle is equipped with keyless entry....") but I was just making sure.

Yup, yours should have it. Did that thread help also? There are links in there that show how to program the remotes and also where to order them from.

Maybe I should look into going back to the factory keyless entry system. I have an alarm, which was in the car when I bought it used back in 2000. I think either the alarm itself or the remote (only have 1 now) is dying, as even with a fresh battery in the remote it will only intermittently operate the alarm.

I guess I need to figure out where the alarm is actually installed and remove it, hopefully restoring the factory keyless entry in the process.

I too have that sticker under my hood on the front core support. The yellow sticker saying it's equipped with keyless etc etc...

Well I couldn't for THE LIFE OF ME find that stupid button you need to program the remote. It didn't exist.

So I went up to a local Stereo King and had a Viper keyless installed. Just basic keyless, door lock/unlock with the panic alarm. Works great

Yeah, the thread helped alot. I should probably try to find the button to program it, before i buy a remote, just from hearing what other people have been saying.

I know here (NZ where we get NZ new and JDM imports) only the GT/GTB's get keyless & NA's generally dont have keyless function from the very 1st gen Leggy (1989/90 up to pesent IIRC)
