Default A mystery. Im stumped.

Last night my daughter and I were out in our yard watering plants when she shouts, "Dad, what is THIS?!?". I walk over, and in the middle of my yard is a crawfish about 4 inches long. Dead. I Picked it up, and it was pretty dried out but still had meat in it and wasnt rotten or stinky. It wasnt chewed up or anything. Just laying there in this middle of my yard, which is at least a mile each way from any kind of water source. My yard is fenced in for 1 1/2 acres, so my dogs cant get out to go patrolling.

So I ask you, how the hell did a crawfish get in the middle of my yard in eastern NC with no water anywhere close to where it was?

No pics because my Great Dane picked it up and ate it after I looked at it.

Something similar has happened to me, twice over the past few weeks. We have found 2 Snapping Turtles in and around my neighbors house. One was a baby (fit in my hand), the other was about 10-15 lbs. and walking down the middle of the street. The nearest swap area is about 1/2 a mile down the road. Long walk for a turtle, especially the little one.

You know, this has gotten me thinking. That was big damn crawfish. Theres a bunch of small creeks and a pond within a mile of my property, and I do enjoy eating crawfish. Maybe I should build some traps and get me some free mudbugs?

Hmmmm.
