05' sti tranny swappable into 03 wrx???

while i was down at Waterfest a couple weeks ago i was talking to another WRX owner and he said he had done sti tranny swaps in his shop on 03 WRX's using an 05 sti tranny, an automatic drive shaft and swapping the front axels from males to females or vise versa. has anyone here heard of that or even done the swap like that without using an entire sti drivetrain?

I was able to do an sti swap on an 02 wrx. I pretty much had to do a complete drivetrain swap though because it was the 05 tranny.
