Default 07 WRX to 07 STI headlight conversion

I need some help. I have the stock 07 wrx lights out and put the new STI lights in and noticed the extra plug for the HID I assume it is for leveling, but the HID lights are no comming on. The high beams work and also the parking lights work.

If you haven't already disabled the DRL you should do so. It might also be wise to make a wiring harness that will go from the ballast directly to the battery (+) and have an acceptable ground. Then simply patch into the light turn-on wire.

So if I unplug the DRL the HID's will work on the stock 07 wrx to 07 STI headlight swap. I have been digging and the 07 wrx does not have the HID rellay or the HID diaode. Can I get conformation on someone who did this swap and what they did to get the HID's to work.

Does anyone have the part number for the the:
- leveling motor switch for the HID's
- Harness for the leveling motor if their is on.
or is their anyone that makes a harness?

DRL sends less power to the halogen bulb (this is why it is a little dimmer) and then more power when the low beam is on (simply making it brighter). DRL is on whenever the car is on, and when the HID ballast is connected, that low amount of power is not enough to run the HIDs. By disabling DRL, the HIDs are either receiving no power or enough to power them when you turn on the low beams.

The leveling switches sometimes are here in the classifieds, are may be available new from subarugenuineparts.com or subaruparts.com or a dealer. I've never heard of a harness for the switch, but I'm sure you could get someone familiar with car electronics to make a good one for you. The same goes for the actual harness for the ballasts: lightwerkz sells one, as does an online place called xenondepot.com, though theirs is not directly plug-and-play.

I did this same mod, mine were plug & play. You may not have plugged in the right connector. To disable the DRL's on the 07, you just unplug the magenta plug form the silverish relay box/connector behind & below the airbox.

I didnt get the leveling switch with my STi headlights, but havent needed to adjust the height. Manual adjuster should still work tho.

No pics, I think it even says DRL on the assembly, and heck no I didnt cut any wires. I'd never advice slicing OEM wiring, dissasembling plugs/connectors & engineering a custom connector yeah, but cutting wiring is the last resort.

Again, the description I gave above is accurate, look under the hood its mounted on the passsenger side shock tower on the 07's, NOT under the dashboard.

Smile 07 STI HID to 07 WRX wiring set up

I am working on a write up for the work.

Overview:

Step 1

Take out the headlights. You do not need to remove the bumber and it is a bitch (tight fit). Just remove the grills and all the bolts and clips this will let you peal back the bumber a little to get the headlight out.

Step 2.

You need a jumper wire for each of the headlights from the center empty outlet. to the power line blue. Take opart the headlight plug and use a skinny all out pinout tool if you have one, I did not and push out the black rubber plug in the center their is only one.

This is where you need a connector into the space you just made. I got two from Subaru. I took the connector with the 5 or so inches of wire that came with it and inserted it into the center space in the headlight connector. You will hear it snap in.

Now you just need to tap into the power which I belive it the blue wire to make the jumper on the headlight. I soddered it and tapped it up looks stock.

Re-assemble the connector and plug them in and put the headlight back in.

Repeat it on the other headlight connector.

Step 2.

on the 07 take DRL relat that is in the pasanger side foot area, (just take out the glove box). Unplug it Take the connector apart and push out the Yellow and red wire and put the connector back together and plug the relay back in.

Ground the Yellow and Red wire, you can look straight foward and add a connector and ground it to the fire wall.

Step 3.

Turn on your HID's

I have the wiring digrams pend in which I can e-mail to anyone so you can see the difference from the WRX to the STI wiring. Just take your time, It tooke me about 2 hours.
