There won't be much wiring I don't believe. I swapped my 98 2.5L out for an EJ22 with only minor wiring issues (speedometer and temp gauge type things).
Definitely make sure that the EJ25 is "healthy" though. JS |

Honestly the 2.2 while a tad down on power is generally more durable, and seems to produce a bit more low-end torque. You are better off sticking with the 2.2, IMHO.

There is something you have to do for the cam/crank sensors. You need to have a certain type(# of triggers on it IIRC). Unfortunately, I dont know the details, just that you need to swap something on the DOHC motor, to put it into a SOHC car.

It isn't the heads is it because i didn't really wanna mess with the timing from 2 separate motors because it doesn't seem like it would go well......
I have a ECU for the DOHC motor if that would help my situation.. Thank you for the responses. |

You will have alot of problems with the wiring due to the fact 95=OBDI and 98=OBDII. sorry. man.

So back to my original question just a few splices of wires and ill be good to put the 2.5 in ?... Im a experienced mechanic i just don't know exactly if i wanna throw the motor in and it not work so i have to take it all back out again.....
my 2.2L is on its way to death very soon so anybody that has done this or knows for sure please input me.. ha.. but yea also I cant find the tread anymore but i remember on one forum they said that the 2.2L ECU and the 2.5L ECU are the same .... is this true? Once again thank you for the responses |

The thread was concerning whether or not a 98 GT ECU would run a 96 GT engine. Both those engines are DOHC but the 96 GT is specced to run on higher grade fuel but puts out less hp/tq than the 98 GT.

Not sure if they are the same, but in my 98 LGT the 2.2 ran on the 2.5 ECU. I ended up using the 2.2 ECU since I had it, but the car ran on both of them...

Make sure before you put it in, change the headgaskets. I don't care if the new motor has 50k miles, change them! They will blow, just a matter of time. Might as well make sure it will happen later than sooner.
No clue if the motor will work in that car though. |
