Default WRX here i come...

Hello fellow Canucks....

It's been a year since i first caught WRX fever.... and it's been a week since I put my order in for 2002 sedan black WRX. Supposed to arrive 1st of April. Got some mods i want done but not too sure exactly which make or where the best places are to buy.... so i look to youse for some help! Here's what i'm planning in what i call stage 1:

tinted windows
full exhaust
spoiler
headlights (morettes)
fog light covers
body kit
roof scoop

Appreciate any initial suggestions!
Thanks!

I got my WRX in November with a few options.

tinted windows: Not so sure I should have gotten this, a bit of a pain at night but you get used to it. They're not that dark anyway.

spoiler: Already comes with one. You thinking of getting the STi version?

morettes: My dealer actually keeps these in stock. They look pretty sweet, I may indulge.

roof scoop: Dealer mentioned these too, purely cosmetic glued-on. Not realy worth it in that case, IMO.

I saw a dressed up WRX at the dealer with 17" wheels with ground-effects kit and painted side-skirts. Looks pretty sweet. But then again, it's only looks.

STi short shifter: probably not the best out there but damn, anything is better than the stock shifter. I recommend you get this, at least with the Kartboy bushings the boards have been raving about many many times. Check out the aftermarket offerings. I consider this quite an essential mod.

remote starter: useful if you like a toasty warm car in winter. Before you get out of the car, switch on the heated seats and crank up the heater. Next time you start up you'll be glad for the extra comfort. Not a bad thing for a NWT resident I suppose. What bugs me is having to leave the shifter in neutral when I park it. Well that's pretty minor, leaving it in first is an old not-so-useful habit.

fog light covers: I use the fog lights all the time, they wouldn't work for me.

performance upgrades: I leased the car, knowing that by the time my lease is up the STi will most likely be available, which I will buy, modify and cherish. So for now I don't even bother with my leased MY02. It's plenty of car for me at the moment.
If you want to go down that road the FFI forum is a veritable cornucopia of information on the subject.

Whatever you do, don't EVER drive out of the dealership with the Bridgestone RE92s. If you're not going all out with a set of 17" wheels and tires, then at the very least try to deal an exchange for some adequate rubber. Not doing so is quasi-criminal.

if you plan on purcashing the subaru bbs 17 wheels make sure you get the stock 16s with them...a lot of dealers keep the 16's..you want the stock wheels for winter just a little suggestion...

Appreciate the feedback!

For spoiler; i'm checking into one from Aero Automotive in Edmonton... seen a couple pics in a thread a little while ago and looked similar to a Wings West one i was looking at, but a quite few $$ less.

Little suprised about your dealer stocking the Morettes... any idea if this is common? I haven't really talked to my dealer about what they could offer...which i probably should. What kind of price if you don't mind?

The roof scoop i found is on www.writerguy.com/primative ... can get the functional vent with that, but...well i'm a cosmetic kinda guy! around $100 American

I haven't put to much thought into wheels and tires yet... other than looking for something to catch my eye... probably 17" .. not sure on the profile yet. Got to realize... still -30 up here and 4ft of snow!... couple months to decide yet.

I'm looking for a ground effects kit that'll provide me with minimal winter driving problems. I've been looking at the CWest kit... they tell me lowers the front by about 2" , which i could probably handle.

Would love any input on exhaust suggestions. Was talking to a company in Canada that was hoping to start manufacturing one by April... can't remember there name... out of Toronto i think. They also make a cold air intake. Otherwise i've been checking out RallyPerformance.com ... ScoobySport i believe. But price seems kinda high.

Any other mods will have to wait until...hmmmm, maybe end of summer. Thinking of new intercooler, boost manager, new intake.

Anyway, appreciate any input from others on good buys and good suppliers!!
Thanks

Hey gbaby! Finally! Another scooby fan from the NWT is here! Whereabouts are ya up here?

There's a few new Imprezas here in Yellowknife. There's a silver WRX and a silver RS, and I've seen a black WRX too but I think it had Alberta plates.

I've been thinking about a blue WRX for myself one of these days.. where did you buy yours? Down in Edmonton? Grand Prairie maybe?

Anyway.. pics of the car when you get it are a must!

Well what do you know! ... two NWTers!

I ordered mine from the Grande Prairie dealer... haven't got it yet but supposed to arrive April 1st. A year ago i wanted the rally blue... but then i changed to black..... although i said i'd never own a black car again! But i'm a fool.... starting to doubt my decision though. Probably should have went with blue.... or white... grrrr! haha

I haven't seen a WRX up here yet... or wait maybe there is a white wagon in town.... can't remember... oh Hay River by the way. But good to hear there's one in YK.

I'll be sure to take pics before and throughout the modifications....
