Default Alaska's Hot Import Nights

Do you think we could pulloff an event similar to Hot Import Nights here in Alaska? I wouldn't mind seeing all makes and models at a large meet this summer. Has it ever been done?

I'm talking about something legal not the midnight racing down at King street or the small gathering at University.

How about a large meet at the Palmer Raceway?

Porsche Car Club meets every once in a while and I think some Hondas have tried. It's a matter of advertising and getting the word on the street. It would be interesting and worth a try. Winslow

That would be sweet if we could work that out. Eric and I are planning on flying down south for a Hot Import Nights somewhere in the lower 48 sometime this year or next.

We will have to talk to the Perfectionist guys, I am sure we could work something out to get an import meet together.

The hardest part would be finding a place to hold it, that could accomodate the cars and the people.

We definately want it to be legal, so that we do not have to worry about being hassled.

Eby is right though, we would definately need some sponsors, because it would probably take some money to get a place and advertise for it. But the import drags at Palmer would be a good place to start.

Sponsor support would really depend on the venue we plan on reserving and the number of participants we would expect to draw. If it's only a large parking lot with limited participation then sponsors will not matter. That's why I am soliciting members to determine the number of possible participants.

BrokeAWD has connections with the Palmer Raceway. He mentioned that they have an Import event two or three times a year. Maybe it would be better to coordinate an event with one of their races or just have a separate meet here in town.

I was thinking more along the lines of an all makes meet. Then we would not know how many people to expect until the show actually started. It would be nice to have a car show, and sound off and all that good stuff rolled into one. Maybe we should talk to John about it, but I have heard that Perfectionist will not back any more shows.

But I definately think the import drags out at the drag strip would be a good place to gauge interest. I will be doing less jet-skiing this year, and working more with Winslow to help to try to spread the word.

There's an annual car show held by the Alaska Hot Rod Association every year. That seems to be the big one, not very many imports enter in it. Last year it was held on the same weekend that Perfectionest held theirs, hence the lack in attendence.

Here's an idea, why not do like the 97.3 Cool Cruise and setup a Car Show/Sound Off in the morning some where, then around 1 or 2pm head out to the track for some racing fun till 9 or 10pm?

Laterz,

Scott

Yeah,

I did the Kool Kruise last year, and it was pretty cool. Although I was one of like four Japanese imports, it was still a good time. The show was pretty good, and the cruise was a good time. The best part was that I was right behind a Shelby Cobra replica, and got to see him run at the drag strip.

Scott, glad to see more people crossing the lines into other forums.

I'm reading alot of good ideas. First, don't schedule when other shows are being held, include all makes, events such as drags and sound-offs. Anything else?

Not really, I'm not too sure about the sound offs. I think that would be best saved for an audio show. Maybe a burnout/drifting contest instead?

Drifting would be cool. It would almost eliminate FWD cars. Difficult but possible. Good idea.
