Default stacked IC's...

I was thinking of a way to make a thick TMIC...I have an idea and not sure if it's been done but should be entertaining...

I was thinking of stacking the intercoolers one on top of each other and connecting them so the air flows in on the typical wrx IC like it would then where it would cross over and come out the Y-pipe it would go into teh other intercooler and out the Inlet on the second one. Block off the BOV plate on one of them...and basically a really thick stock looking IC...I'll see if I can make this work...

that is of course if the IC's are not directional air flow...but not sure how that can be...

The main issue I see is clearance. Not sure you would have enough room.

Second, the ambient air (cooling medium) is going to heat up as it passes through the first intercooler, so the amount of cooling the second (lower) intercooler will do is probably going to be less then the amount the first one performs.

it is true that the air would heat up as it hit the second but the top intercooler would be teh feed and the bottom would be the inlet...

since heat technically rises, but the air will be pushing down the lowest intercooler will be the hottiest and there for be put on the bottom so the air entering the scoop would be cooling the top cooler...

Plus I may have to run some IC piping to accomidate the set up so that will also allow some radiation

I have a feeling if this idea was effcient or worth while it would already be in production by an OEM or aftermarket manufacture. But it's always interesting to hear new ideas. More power to you if you want to purse it, I'd like to see how it turns out.

well i was looking at the stock wrx IC and the issue is that the inlets and outlets would both have to be on teh same side of the IC. If the inlet was on teh passenger then outlet on the driverside it would be easier to make work. I also didn't realize how thick the stock wrx IC is already. I'd basically have an 8" IC if I did this and if it worked.

Thinking about it more, the air would be changing volume too often to make the airflow effective. There isn't an issue of getting the air to the engine, it's just not gong to be too effective...I'll still play with this idea...I'm not ready to toss a white flag, as nothing's been broken and all fingers are still intact

Sandwich a water sprayer in between the two.

Nice idea that would help with cooling down the bottom one before hitting the top...

I really want to try this...well see what happens
