Default just wanted some opinions from sti owners..

let me start off by saying i love my 05 sti to death,
my question to you guys is , if you got a job offer with a fat raise
but you had to drive your sti everyday for a long drive to and from work
would you?
its the only car that i can drive right now (my fd has no a/c is loud and
suspension stiff as hell) im thinking this means more mileage, more oil changes tire wear, and especially gas.
this new job would be about a 45-50 min drive, compared to 10-15 min
drive where i work now. what would you do?

I think the common responce will be to get a committed daily driver.

You say you got a 'fat raise'. IMO a 'fat raise' would allow you to get a nice DD
and have a fun weekend car.

Keep the sti for weekend fun and find yourself a $500 beater Honda or Ford Escort or Chevy Cavalier or something similar with a/c as a beater to drive back and forth to work. At least that is what I would do.

My question would be: If you got a fat raise, and they said you COULDN'T drive your car, should you quit immediately? My answer would be: Absolutely.

In my opinion, most people commute that much

besides spending alot of money on gas, the wear and tear on the car is negligeable, i mean sure your miles will rack up, but isnt that the point of the car?

I was recently in the same situation.

I had a 20 min commute (16 miles each way). Got a job that is an hour away (55 Miles each way). I sold my sti and bought a used 2003 accord v6 fully loaded. I figured i'd save on gas and it would be more comfy.

I miss the sti so much that it would be worth the additional gas money. There are plenty of owners with over 100k and running reliably. I wish i just kept it and drove it everyday.

I am getting 30mpg with the accord (87 octane) so i'm saving alot on gas, and i have some money from the sti in the savings acct. But I regret selling the sti everyday.

If your raise is fat enough, keep it.

I commute a solid 40 minutes each way to school every day in my WRX. I used to have a honda civic, and yeah it was way better on gas but I don't mind the extra gas money to make the commute more enjoyable and have a car/hobby I can play with on weekends as well. If I can afford to commute in a WRX on a student budget, you should be able to pull it off with your "fat raise".

To me, part of the reason of having an STi over other sports cars is the fact that you can use it daily, it's not hard to drive, doesn't have massive blind spots, and if you stay out of the boost you can get close to 30mpg.

To me, people who only drive their STi's on weekends are missing the point, there are much better weekend cars out there, but there's nothing (in my opinion) that can beat an STi as a fast car that can be driven 365 days a year.

<--- Commutes 30min each way.

Depends on the type of commute. When I was working in New York, the commute was 50 miles each way through bumper-to-bumper on Manhattan streets in rush hour. I bought a Miata specifically for that type of trip because my car was ill-suited for that kind of thing, stiff clutch and all.

Now that I'm in Los Angeles, my hours are skewed so the rush is avoided, it's 20 miles each way, and there's an alternate route that makes it all worthwhile if the freeways are indeed packed.

I don't get enough time driving my STI daily. I only have a 2.5 mile 15 minute each way commute daily. My neighbors laugh because I keep the STI in the garage and my Mercedes lives in the drive way. They don't understand at all.

You got a fat raise but you might be spending that raise on prem. gas for your STI...keep your eye open for another everyday car and see if something strikes your fancy

I would drive the STI.

I picked up my STi as a winter beater and daily driver. Noticed that you too have an FD My FD is brutally loud, suspension is too stiff, gas mileage sucks (makes the STI look GREAT), but so much fun to drive.

I used to DD my 1993 RX-7, but now it is a weekend warrior or when I get tired of how slow the STi is.

I've put 134+k miles on my bugeye with an average commute of 1.5 hours a day since the car was new. Just got an 08 STI and intend to do the same with it.

commuting is terrible, I hate commuting, especially in traffic. Not worth it IMO. I'd either move closer to the job or keep your current one

if you love driving your STi, then this new job should give you plenty of driving enjoyment.

besides, its only a car, and will have miles racked up on it eventually.

so you have an fd and an sti. um... point? why not have a track car (fd, i would assume) and then a beater? and by beater, i dont mean a dd like an sti, i mean a car that if it gets obliterated by a deer at mach5, you can just say "oh well" and buy another one with the cash in your savings.
