Default 09 WRX vs 08 STI?

Hopefully this doesn't start a war here but I was curious how these two would stack up. I know they are two different types of car but after reading everything posted on here regarding the 09 WRX with all their new features I'm kind of curious what would be a better buy. With prices going up for 09 I was wondering if it would be smart to get a used 08 STI over a new 09 WRX? I have found a few STI's with under 2k miles for a ok price but with all these new WRX upgrades it has me thinking. Hopefully this post wasn't a waste of your time, I totally fall under the newbie category. Thanks for all your help.

dont forget about insurance. get a quote for both. it could be a make or break deal. i'd rather get a used sti over the wrx just for the tranny. if the tranny's were equal, the wrx would probably be the better bargain.

sit in an 08 sti, you'll know the answer really fast , but why did they trade it in so fast? aside from the usual angry rich parent figuring out what they actually just bought their 16 year old, or someone thinking gas is too much

I know what you mean. I was at the dealership about everyday of last week. I never test drove one but they cranked it up and let the pipes rip. I was hooked to say the least. It would be my first subaru buy. One of my concerns was the size issue with these new models, both the STI and WRX. I'm a avid mountain biker and I need some room to put all my stuff. I haven't seen any STI's with trailer hitches to put a bike rack on so that hurts a tad. I could easily take the wheels off and stuff it all in the back, but with my downhill bike its a pain in the A$$ and having a bike rack is ideal. Also, I was curious why we havent seen to many STI's built up more with the rally mindset? I'm not knocking anyone's interest on how they set up their car, I would just like to see a few set-ups with some rally lights or even better bike racks haha. Thanks again for the help. There is a lot to learn.

Fender flares...

Reason enough to get the sti. Along with the 6 speed.

there are plenty of mostly rally type mods, like mud flaps, and hella rally light racks, but most owners don't really rally because there aren't too many places to go and it takes a huge toll on the car, without sponsors most people couldn't afford just doing it for fun. Mostly i've seen owners stick to hill climbs and autox, and maybe their cars powerful, stable, reliable, and look awesome.

Great question but we have no idea. The 09s aren't out so we can't compare. Insurance rates aren't out so we can't compare. Pricing isn't out so we can't compare. Get my drift?

Anything said at this point is premature and will only confuse things....aside, Car A vs. Car B is a personal opinion and there is no right answer.
