Default My first "real" vehicle damage

So, I was headed down Everett Turnpike last night, and right in the middle of the road in Nashua, sitting in shadows between streetlights, is a huge truck bumper or something of that ilk, across the entire lane. I knew it would cause some serious damage if I nailed it head-on at 65-70MPH, so I swerved (as carefully as possible) to avoid.

I clipped the big fiberglass thing with the middle-right area of my bumper, looked in my rearview and saw little bits of stuff flying in the air. It left a couple of deep nicks in the plastic bumper cover (taking the paint with it), bent up my front license plate, and cracked the plastic bumper cover near the support on the inside of the big hole in the bumper. Nothing really major, just some cosmetic beating. The tire seemed unscathed, no gashes or damage that I could see.

Still scared the bejeezus out of me.

/Andrew

Oh, the suckiest sucking thing that ever sucked!

That's rough, man. My shiny new underspoiler was taken out last year by an errant piece of Saturn, and later again by a cardboard box.

Road debris sucks. It should be a capital offense to leave bits of your car behind!

i know that feeling when i had my RS someone was nice enought to leave 4 4x4x10' long boards for my in the middle lane which spun me out into the gaurd rail then like a year later on the way to work kinda dark out still someone was kind enough to leave a fiberglass pickup truck cap in the middle of the high lane for me to clip. So i'm glad to see your fine and nothing major happened

Yeah, I gave my baby a nice loving pat last night after I saw her take the hit like a trooper. I think she'll get washed today as a reward.

I think I might want to get ahold of someone local who can try to buff out the stuff on the right side, there's a lot of whitish paint from the fiberglass on the bumper that I'll likely have a bitch of a time getting off.

Ouch..... Sorry to hear it Andrew. Hope it's not too noticble.

Reminds me of driving up to Maunch one night. Just past 293 going north, travelling in the 3rd lane from the left, I came across the cardboard box for a washing machine! I'm just glad the Echo too the aggressive maneuver so gracefully. I don't know if the washing machine was still in it, and I'm glad I never found out.

I feel your pain, bro. Check out my thread "Subaru's Kryptonite" about a ballistic shopping cart and the $450 it's going to cost me But $h|t happens. At least no human was hurt. :monkey: shopping carts and road debris

Well, luckily, all the "damage" is to plastic parts, and I'm not particularly anal-retentive about keeping my car looking purty.

So, I'll probably get someone to help me buff out what's possible, and touch up what's left. No biggie.

Khaos:

Feel free to bring the car down this way some sunny weekend; we can meet up at Lord Bass' place and I'll have a go at cleaning up your car for a few hours.

makes some of us think twice about hurtling down certain highways at triply illegal speeds, eh? all it takes is one redneck to leave his couch on the road between maggie sue's and mary margaret's and a wrx going at triple digit speeds smacking into it and we'll have one big mess.

hmmmm...

[edit: "some of us" isn't meant to implicate anybody. i've done my share of the stupids, probably more so than most ]

SoobATV -- Sounds good... we'll make a day of it.

rajito -- Definitely. It's pretty freaky that nobody called it into the state police or anything. Luckily, I was only doing about 65 or 70 through there, so dodging wasn't too bad.

Ouch!

Sorry to hear about your little bang up. I guess when you drive on the open road, all sorts of crazy can happen.
