the biggest thing with the SVX is that for me to do anything that's not a one off means that I'm going to need some absolutely dedication from the community, and I'm worried that there just aren't enough of them out there to cover a decent sized run of parts.
So make very small runs of well thought out, useful parts. Those seem to sell well. Just don't spend time any money developing something like a strut bar. Look at Nevin's Rear sway bar thread. If you concentrate on the right parts, the market is there. Bling and CAI just aren't going to do it. SVX owners are too practical.

Small structural parts like fender and subframe braces maybe?
But if someone did find a coilover setup that was cheaper than GCs and konis, it'd sell like crazy - cause as has been said, everyone needs struts. (keep in mind that if you buy them already put together, it's not even close to being cheap, and some people like me would prefer to buy something assembled that didn't involved chopping up my stock housings)

I get annoyed when I see that basic coilovers for a WRX can be bought for $800 in some cases, ready to bolt in. BUt assembled Koni/GC's are closer to 1,400.

I'll give you an example - I've been trying to find a company in the US that can make me empty strut housings for some time now.

The tube and lower clevis - no problem at all.

The tooling to do the stamping for the lower spring perch - $70,000. Each.

It would have to be coilovers as most of the work is already done, BUT I need to figure out that endlink attachment. Let me see what AST has.

As for basic WRX coilovers being $800. Well, that's going to be 800 wasted, whereas koni and GC at 1400 is actually not bad.

End link attachment "could" be solved using GM's method of attaching the RSB to the strut on the '88 (only) Pontiac Fiero. There is a bracket that bolts to the strut using the 2 strut to hub bolts. Simple and stupid easy to make. They have long since been out of production and I have made many sets over the years.

The DC5 RSX and a few others also use the link to strut trick. I know that AST makes coilovers for some of the hondas so I've asked to see if they have a way to handle this.

If they do then I'll take some clevis measurements and see if they have a damper that will work.

Then I'll have to figure out top hats.

Guys - keep in mind this is going to have to be a back burner project as I have three things new products that are going to need lots of money in the very near future.

Didn't I post a picture of mine? I got them second hand and are a custom one of but the idea is there. But we've had teh probelm of trying ot find a manufacture as stated, willing to put int he development time to make a part and make sure it works right with the car. These cars are HEAVEY and need a lot of attention to suspension. That's also why I so bady want a second to start cutting up and doing CF across the board on. Untill then I'll have to stick to picking up spare pannels here and there and sending them off to get molds made and eventually parts made. Mmmmm.. wingless trunk from junk yard for $40.

Anywho i'll pull up a pic of my coilovers and repost if i don't already have them posted earlier in the thread. I'm soon to do a GC/Koni build though as these are WAY too stiff for the car and need a rebuild. I keep not wanting to take women anywhere in the car cause it's so bad. I bet they'd fail the B-Cup test...

BTW We need something like this on the market and not just custom done.

I badly need to rebuild this set as all my adjuster rings are frozen and I haven't had time to attack them so I can get a good corner balance on my car.... and cause I badly need helper springs so I stop dying on NE roads with 520 front spring rates...

So what does TIC offer currently for the SVX? Maybe a separate thread?

No idea on total. Gonna get pics now. It just happened (posted while waiting for police to finish report).

I hope it's not total, but given rarity of parts and body panels, and value of the car I wouldn't be surprised.

Just from limping it to the shop (I was 200 yds away) I can tell rear diff is dead. From glancing under, I have the list so far:

Knuckle
bearing
hub
upright
lateral links
axle
strut
wheel
rear bumper cover
Perhaps ARB
rear quarter panel

Bummer part is I JUST had filled it with gas this afternoon.

Thankfully no. TiC Jr. was at home in bed. I was heading into the shop to print his B-day party invitations and get a head start on Monday's to do list. Sadly, neither got done as I spent a good bit of time on the phone with my insurance company.

PM me a list of the parts you need, there's an almost complete SVX at a junkyard nearby.

Sweet! Let me see what the body guys come back with, and if we need to pull a rear quarter or suspension they can't get I'll hit you up.

Sucks man, that is/was a good looking SVX. BTW, I get the tax returns soon, and will be hitting you guys up. I need new powersteering pump, and a ps leak in the lines fixed. then check and see if my trans is up to snuff. then check and see if I just need a themostat, or why it won't warm up. So, some business coming you way, then you can talk me into buying into your new stuff??

That really sucks. I hope the guy got a ticket or something. :/

On the brighter side, getting donor parts is not very hard up north. If you wanted to take this misfortune as an opportunity, the whiteline lateral links will bolt up and there is a group buy on new 22mm sway bars. I have one on my car and handling was greatly improved. Also you might be able to fit some of your Tokico struts on the rear as the bolt pattern lines up, maybe just fit with the SVX top mounts. (This is my planned project since we got the Tokicos for the 04 STI, leaving me with 04 STI struts to play with).

The only thing that makes me cringe is the rear body panel as it would require some persistence to get it back to normal.
