Post Talk me out of getting a WRX!!!

Hey everybody, I did something I shouldn't have yesterday. As many of you know, my car was stolen a few weeks ago, and I went to Suburban Subaru in Manchester CT (GREAT place BTW!!) to see about getting my car fixed up there. Well, after I talked to someone in parts, I took a WRX for a test drive . . . 3 words . . . I WANT ONE!!!!! My car is already paid off and everything, and I don't want to deal with car payments now, at least not for another year . . . so talk me out of getting it!!!! Cuz I don't know if I can hold out!!!

Sweet dude. I went to Surburban too. Did you test drive the red standard they had on the lot or is that sold now too!

Lemme know what kind of deal they offer you. Also, don't forget to try Ty Subaru down in Windsor Locks (near the airport). I'm waiting to purchase mine until I have a big enough down payment where I won't be paying too much per month.

Best of luck to you.

The REX is a wonderful car, however as you pointed out your present "L" isn't all that bad, its already paid for, and is much less likely to be stolen.

Slap on some inconspicuous wheels & a so - so stereo (hide the subwoffer & speakers) back on your "L", and force yourself not to think about the drive in the REX.

I second the Ty Subaru Guys, had some bad experiences with those Suburban fellas, but to each his own. As for helping you decide, there is only one persons opinion that really matters, sorry I couldn't help more.

Some of us would willingly sell a kidney for that car. Do it. Do it. Do it.

UNLESS you can find the will power to hold out for a few months. Take the cash you'd pay for a WRX payment and set it aside each month. Then you'll remember what its like to have a car payment (and whether or not it really was financially feasible). And you'll have a nive little downpayment to boot.

dirk

PS: on that kidney thing, my bloodtype is A-...PM if you're interested.

I'm loving every minute in mine.

I agree with dirk.gecko, save up the $ (if you have the nerves ) to get used to doing payments again, and you'll have a nice chunk of change to put down when you decide to get one. That, and you may be able to get a better deal on them a little farther down the road. Right now, most dealerships don't want to budge from MSRP. I'm assuming, of corse, that you have more patience than me.

Definitly don't forget the Ty Subaru guys, great bunch of guys over there, that's where I got my REX.

Car payments suck. A lot. If I could have I would have saved every penny for months just to put more cash down. Alas I had to drive the REX and then it didn't take much twisting of my arm to get me to plunk down a meager down payment. It helped to have my older car plain out DIE. At least that's how I justify it to myslef.

The one way to talk you out of it and save you some car payments:

Wait for the STi!!!

That'll keep you payment free for a year or two and you'll get an even better car.

sorry can't do that to you, enjoy mine way the heck too much

however- My general rule is if you can't put 20% of the purchase price for a down payment- ya can't afford the car- plain and simple

maybe that would work

20%, that's some good advise. I'm doing exactally what you folks suggest and saving as much as possible to get a nice beefy down payment.

Does anybody have any advise on how to get a WRX as cheaply as possible? (Excluding stealing one, of course.)

They are in Victor, NY which is quite a haul, but the prices are impossible to beat.

I like your car as it is man, just don't put some big Focals on it. Get those RS rims we saw and then keep it looking pretty much stock.
Then wait til' after 2003 and GO STi!!!!
That's my 2 cents.

i agree with bry-dogg. wait a year. i wish i had waited longer to trade in my wrangler sahara (like a year or two) so i could get an sti too! i just wish i could get all the sti action in my '99 body. now that would be a sweet looking car with all the nut to back it up. keep your car and go turbo or wait for sti.

hehe, this is the buy the wrx thread... So, I can only think of three things why NOT to by a WRX: 1) higher insurance, 2) higher gas prices (super), 3) no sunroof.

Other than that, it's a 2.5RS with a nice kick in the pants. Besides they already put in the trunk light for ya and it has a functional hood scoop.

I'd talk you out of it BUT...
I drove 2 WRXs today. One was a wagon with an auto, the other was a black sedan 5speed. The first time my wife ever said something cool...
"I like the 5 speed better"
I had to pause for awhile. The 02 RSs are out also, they look sweet, especially since they are $5k less.
Anyways, I showed the kids what "kick in the pants" means. And my wife showed me what a $25k payment looks like-ouch!

You guys arent helping!!! I think the biggest thing holding me back is waiting for the STi to come out . . . by then, I'll have plenty of change for one, and then I'll be blowing away all you guys in your non-STi-WRX's.

Go ahead and get it now. The STI will be limited. All might be scooped up before you could slap down your depo$it.
