Default Help! Lost a cam cap during rebuild

ok, so i just took my engine into rallitek. It was all in boxes allready apart. They said that it is missing one cam cap from the set. He also said that it cannot be replaced and i have to completely get new heads if i cant find it? is this true? The heads are from a 02/03 wrx.

yes that is true. the cam caps are lined bored with the heads so you can not just replace it with another cam cap from another cylinder head. If you do, your cams won't function correctly and oil will leak out from the heads. I say better start looking around your house.

Not true. The head will have to be line bored with a new cam cap installed. A simple job for any machine shop.

Just get a cam cap, take the head and cam caps with the cam to a machinist. They will check the clearances and bore out the new cam cap if needed. There is an access hole for the machine tool to do this on the head. THis is why the head cover gasket has that half moon section in it. THis wont be expensive.
