Only after some serious thinking about thermal mass and what actually causes you to stop did I realize the benefit. The sole benefit that hasnt been mentioned here is resistance to brake fade. the larger aluminum has the ability to sink more heat thus reducing fade over TRACK runs. any cars stock brakes will have the ability to stop it once brake to the floor, but doing it from 100mph repeatedly after a straight is where the bigger caliper can help.
Exactly. If I were tracking my car I would want very large brakes for this reason, not exactly for stopping power.

the way i said it about the rotors was because i dont want people thinking they have some crazy awesome rotor. for most guys out there that race they do go with a centric blank at like $75 each because they trash them after a weekend. DBA, brembo, aluminium top hat rotors etc at like $300-400 is just silly for 90% of the people out there.

O and PS, dont forget guys with the older cars and miles, a caliper rebuild should be in your future.

However, it is an upgrade from the wrx. The brembos were appealing to me because it meant that I could just change out pads and fluid and be good to go for track days...I don't need to buy all new calipers and rotors to make it through sessions.

I would be interested to hear what the differences in how the wrx on race pads and fluid fade compared to the sti though...just for fun's sake

thats true! im sure most of us here know better though. lol hell, because the WRX is 220lb lighter it actually stops 2-3 feet shorter then the STI! now if you do back to back to back stops, the STI's larger rotor and caliper do come into play at helping stop brake fad, but not as much as it could be. thats why you are right and it is an upgrade over the WRX. a "Brembo" package for the WRX is about $1600. for me though to equal that id have to go with the $1000 Wilwoods. or go balls to the wall and get the $2000-$3000 sets.

very good last point! i personally would take a centric slotted rotor package at $280, race pads at $206, lines at $150 and fluid at $60 over the stock OEM STI. $700 is a nice bang for the buck!

ahh, very good point! one i forgot to mention! this is why the 09 WRX ended up stopping 8-10ft shorter then the 08 WRX. the tires were far superior. the tires on these cars now are pretty good though for the most part.

So, trip to turn in concepts was a success. Got the seats home, the are sweet. I've spent the last hour sitting In them, on my garage floor...

Brad at TIC was cool, he gave me a master cylinder brace, and front and rear trailing arm bushing sets for free! Now I have some mini projects to hold me over for the next couple weeks while I wait for my wedge seat brackets to show up.

I'll toss up some pics either tonight or tomorrow.

I feel like that's something I'd do. Just sit in them in my garage with some beers. I want awesome seats

Just check the evolutionm forums man, lots of seats for sale.

Then check back with me so I can tell you the right brackets that you need from wedge, and the measurements.

Or you can do it the hard way and read the entire how to by peleg. A good read.

I want awesome seats*

*but I dont want to pay for them. heh I was just expressing my jealousy.

As much as I would love to have some awesome seats in my WRX I just don't see myself spending the money on them. I want new wheels very badly and the ones I want are expensive. The OEM seats in the WRX are really nice, but I have just always wanted a nice grippy bucket seat.

As far as seats go, if I had never sat in Erik's, or his brothers evo x, I wouldn't have known any better. My best advice would be this- if you don't want to feel like you HAVE to buy new seats, don't sit in somebody else's. It's like a disease, and you catch it by trying other peoples seats.
THANKS ERIK. I BLAME YOU!

You are absolutely welcome! Once you get them in and drive for a while you will be singing the "why the hell didn't I get them sooner" tune. They will be amazing for the drive back and forth from Connecticut and for any long drive.

Yeah, they will be so much better for the longer drive, and no more watching Sarah bounce around in the passenger seat. The best thing I ever did was sit in your seats, it was like being unplugged from the matrix.

Excellent analogy. Kinda like the revealing moment of when I tried your shifter with the bushing kit... I then had to have them.

DO NOT GO TO THE AUTO SHOW. holy crap, i have never seen more base models of crappy cars like ford, dodge, chevy in my life. nissan for example, just a nismo 370z and that was it. no other 370's, no GTR etc. just 1 of everything so you couldnt see or get near them. OMG the colors for everything was awful too. just nasty greens, browns, baby blues etc. the only cars worth much was a Lexus GS fully modded by Five Axis that was sweet, a IS-F, the LFA, and you guys would like the 1 BRZ you couldnt touch. same went for a 2013 Hyundia Genius, umm why cant we see it or touch it??!! it was a waste of money. 3 base porshces, no BMW, and some dealers that just wanted to sell "their" cars.

lol o yeah, couldnt even bring a STI, just one WRX.

Has anyone else here every done wheel bearings on their STi's? I can't believe that no auto parts store or dealership within 250 miles from me has any of the parts I need in stock. I had to special order them though the dealer. I mean granted these cars are not the most popular cars on the market but they are production cars and they defiantly are not rare by any means. They told me it would be 2-3 weeks before they could get the parts here. Anyone know where I could find new parts local?

I can't offer you any help Ryan, but I'm just curious, why do you think your bearing is going? And do you think it's cause of auto x?

Well you have to remember unlike you and Geoff my GD does have 100k on the clock. I got parts last week and friday night I began tearing it all apart. Once I had the hub assembly off the car and on the bench I realized that the bearing itself was fine and in tacked but the spindle the bearing was pressed onto had failed and aloud the tire and rotor to move about a 1/4 inch in all directions. Once I had the old bearing pressed off the shaft using a micrometer I found that the spindle was out of spec and thats when the parts search began. So to answer you question Matt I believe that the inner oil seal went and thats what caused the failure. Im sure that last seasons autox defiantly didn't help the situation but like I said before the car does have 100k miles and it was just a matter of time before they were going to go anyways. So I went ahead and ordered all four just for a piece of mind because I plan on doing some serious autocross this year. Hopefully some of you guys can make it out this season! On a side note its going to be a VERY cold commute to work this week on my motorcycle!!

That makes more sense Ryan, I didn't know you had that many miles on yours. And it looks like a couple days this week might be okay weather-wise....Stay warm!

I'd be good for Friday, it's supposed to be 55 and sunny as of right now as well.

Ryan, are you working on Thursday, or are you off all day to install? I don't work till 330, and be glad to swing by and help you if you'd be out in the morning.
