Any Rex's or STi's in the Lake County / Cleveland East area have a meeting spot? This is my first summer taking out the WRX to show / etc. so I'm not up on the spots around here.

I knew it was only a matter of time before you threw my name out there. A few weeks ago I probably would have taken you up on that but I'm stuck between Boosted Rex's WRX TR and super nice 07 STi with only 10K miles and a lot of nice upgrades, its looking at about 450-500HP . Its only $1k more than Rex's TR.

I gotta take another look at your sales post.

have you ever driven anything w/ 400+ HP??? For a DD, and being a newb... it may be a lil over your head. I'm not trying to bash or anything... but when i got my 07 TR i was a lil over my head... Morrison has a great, unmolested well taken care of ride that you can learn on and add mods/power as you get to know the car. Not just trying to have the biggest **** at the meat just cuz you got the most bling.... I believe you gotta evolve w/ the car, not just buy one w/ all the goodies just cuz you have the cash...... and not know how to drive it/ put the parts to use.

I'm not hatin' in anyway, just puttin my .02 in.. that is all

Oh I know, and your words are dearly noted. I've just always liked the STi and despite that huge power it has, thats not the reasson i'm getting it.(A huge plus don't get me wrong)

It's the year of the STi that I like the most, its already colored in WRB on gold, its not too far so I don't have to pay for shipping, the miles are too low to say no, the price is more or less just right.

Having it how it is means I don' have to put money into the engine until I learn whats under there already, I wouldn't want to drive stock no matter what car I have so its good that it comes with so much punch.

If I brought Andrew's WRX, its about as much as the STi, adding the parts I want to the WRX would make it more than the STi.

I don't know, I have a week to think about it.

EDIT: LT if you're reading this I'm stuck now between the V1 and 9500xi, they both have very good points. Any more imput would be nice but I'm leaning more to the 9500xi.

Doin't get the STi. If it's only $1k over Trex's and it has "500HP" then something is wrong with it. It's only a matter of time until it assplodes and you're faced with a new motor. As of right now you have neither the funds or knowledge to rebuild a high horsepower AWD car. Are you going to risk it?

My advice: drive stock. You haven't driven a 5spd AWD yet. You need to get used to something that's pushing 220HP before making a jump. Don't run before you can walk. Put another way, it's like getting a top of the line computer then instantly overclocking it. Why? Appreciate the speed first. Then, when you need more power, you'll be learning it hands on. You have more than enough horsepower, Subaru makes their cars perfectly drivable without any mods. Learn the car, learn its quirks, learn its power. Then go in and mod; you'll have much more of an idea what you want after that point.

BTW- if you want to know, my first car was a 98 Toyota Corolla AT. I learned about the engines and swapped in a Celica GT-S 2ZZGE engine plus 5spd tranny. Then I went from that to a higher power boosted S13 on coilovers for drift. And now I'm at my highest power with AWD. Work your way up.

The two cars equal to about the same price give or take a few hundred. And the dealer said a Sub-tech they have quotes it at about 450-500HP, its been modded and sold to them so they don't know too much about that. It’s got about 10K in upgrades so they say, hell for all i know they could just be retarded and it’s just a normal 300HP STi, but I doubt that.

I get tired of things fast and a stock 220HP 5spd WRX won’t keep my interested for long. I just want to spend my cash on something I'll enjoy.

Again, the advice is noted and I’ll make sure to think about all this before I make my purchase.

I really want Brian's 08 STi still but can't, damn that thing is niceeeeee.

So a DEALER is saying the car has 10k worth of mods and still selling it for a price of a stock used STi with low mileage. If that's not your first and last warning, I don't know what is.

Get the TR. Should be no thinking to this.

Stick with WRX unmolested. I had an 03 that was fun and then I took it to stage4 status. You appreciate something you pour time and sweat into. Not to mention, you know EXACTLY what is in there. Its good that STI sold, you would be faced with huge problems in future, especially if from dealer.

2009 WRX's by the way have 265 hp stock and have quicker 0-60 times than STi, not to mention a few hundred bucks and a COBB protune puts close to stage2 STi, check the website for dyno results.

his will be cheaper. trade-in value on an 08 is 20+k and mine is an 09 and numbers arent out yet.

Make a reasonable offer...

Honestly... Stick with the TR or mine. You know who they are coming from.

I learned car stuff on a toyota too!!! mine was an 82 Supra. I put in the JDM 5mge engine. nice ride. miss it.

Soo its not the hatch, that makes me sad. Redx wants $20.5 so somewhere around there? Uhhhh $21.5 sound good? If not we can talk.

You guys gotta help me put together something nice, I'm not stopping at 265, by the end of this summer I want at least 300hp.

FWIW, Jason, I'm glad you didn't get the souped-up STi.

There was a younger member of LERSOC, back a couple of years ago, with a high-powered (400+ wHP, on Buschur's heartbreaker of a Mustang), "bought souped-up" STi, which, IIRC, pretty much always had something wrong with it, and endured a lot of down-time.

Buying a "pre-souped-up" car should be reserved for those who *really* know their way under the hood. It's not a learning experience - and if it is, the curvature is EXTREMELY steep, and few would call it "fun" - and you should have alternate transportation available, and can undertake the potential hit to your wallet, in terms of secondary expenses.

Either go new, or go used with either a dealer/factory warranty or a known history (i.e. someone like morrison).

A few of the more run-of-the-mill upgrades is OK, but if it gets really deep, you'd better know what you're getting into, intimately.

---

As for the detector, since money, at least at this price-point, doesn't seem to be a problem for you, I'd truly recommend that you get a hold of both, for their "30-day test-drive" program, and take full advantage of it.

Although it will take more than 30 days to truly get to know your detector intimately, and to best exploit its performance, that initial period can allow you to at least figure out if the detector's a good match for you.

Truly and honestly, at this level of the game, the absolute performance of the detectors isn't going to be the deciding factor in what's a better fit for you - it's going to be what features you like/prefer. Any of these top-dogs can well effect real-world "saves," provided that you're using them correctly, and understand the technical limitations that they are *all* bound by, as well as any specifics.
