I just replaced my steering rack bushings with the whitelines, on my 2002 wrx. And now whenever I let off the gas and coast I get a kinda grinding sound. It sounds like metal on metal and the engine or transmission sound is being transferred through the cabin. At first I couldnt get the drivers side bushing installed correctly, I had the cut to the top, but I now rotated it so the cut is on one of the sides, but the noise is still there.
If I put the clutch in the noise goes away. And if I am in 5th it isnt very load, so that makes it seem like the transmission. Has anyone experienced this before, or know what to look for?

Well it isn't because of the steering rack bushings. The noise is probably coincidental. I happen to have the same noise you describe occur after Subaru recently replaced my engine and I also had the clutch/flywheel replaced. I immediately brung it back to the dealer and they have replaced the rear diff and it still makes the noise
. Mostly in 3rd or 4th gear only, only when letting off the gas. Errant noises are certainly had to diagnose in person and hopefully by describing the conditions exactly, someone with the same issue previously can chime in with a good quess at what it would be. Good luck finding your problem. I might as well make a post about it before I bring it back to the dealer Monday. |

I did some more searching thinking it is a coincidence, and found teh decceleration noise issue, and I think thats what it is. I did lower my tire pressure a couple pounds at the same time, so I am going to raise it back up and see if it goes away.
Thanks for the replies. |
