Talking Me found local distributor for Rota Wheels!

Yup... I came across it today when I dropped by Richmond Slot Cars Today ( Opposite side of Lansdowne mall in Richmond, on No.3 Road, just above Subway next to Fit City for Women)

As I walked into the slot car place, I noticed some Rota Wheels boxes... so I looked closely to see them reading SubZeros, then one of them read Tarmac, then Gold, that caught my eye...

Dang... The Tarmacs (Replica P1) looks awfully nice in Gold... So I was talking to the owner... he told me he was the only distributor here... That's Cool!

Anyways... I asked him about the price... He said if we can get around 5 people to buy Tarmacs it'll be $920 for all fours without rubber, that's $230 per wheel... not too bad...

You guys can go check it out

Sunny

Dude, just go through Technik. You get tires with it too.

If anyone's interested I'll try and setup a groupbuy, with good tires too.

I won't risk my car and my life on those ROTA. I talked about that on lots of Honda boards while ROTA slipstreams(*****streams) became the famous SPOON knock-off.

Yeah for weight wise, they maybe pretty light and of course they're cheap too. But for quality, I really doubt it. I've seen pictures that someone has a Civic SiR with TEIN RA coilovers, SPOON 4pot brake calipers and Endless rotors etc hit the curb, his ROTA cracked right off.....car spinned around and hit a light post. Another total lost Civic...

Man I won't go for those ROTA if I were him. There are some pretty nice and cheap with good quality now. For example, Kosei K1 Racing that me and 5Zigen are using, Enkei RP01 and RP02, etc. Really nice and strong with a good price.

Actually... Rota make some very good rims... Even Companies like Mitsubishi, Suzuki, and Toyota (just to name a few) use their rims for their cars...

According to my readings, those wheels were Spoon knock offs... but Taiwan made Spoon Knockoffs, not Rota made to my knowledge...

Well Sunny u could be right on Rota making OE rims for Mitsubishi and so on, but well I don't know. At least OE rims has to reach a certain standard on quality and strength. Which pretty much NO standard aftermarket wheels has to pass.

Lots of manufacturers make SPOON knock off. Some are in Taiwan and Rota is one of them, which is made in Philippines.

i am very intereted, but was surpriesed by the price that the local dealer was offering.,

therer was a huge group buy thread int he vedors section about 2-3 months ago...

the price was only about 500$ US without tires.
i've also been talking to the president of rotas, they are awfully busy and does not yet have time to update their websites.
i think he's Chinese ,although it doesn't make a lot of difference..

so if it's really about 9xx$ that they are offering, even for a group buy price here, they are off against our iclub vendors (Revolution sports) by about 250$ CDN.... hm...

i know 900$ with tires should be a good price for first offerings..

I paid $570USD shipped to my door for my Subzeros. And as for the iclub group buy being "good deal," don't forget to include shipping and handling costs, duty/taxes, exchange rate, waiting time, etc.

And if you're seriously thinking $900 for wheels AND tires to be a good first offering, you've GOT to be Joking! I paid $600 for my tires - USED!

If you're gonna go cheap-po 17" tires, let's guestimate the price to be $100 for something barely decent. That price is $100 EACH, not $100 for a set. So that's $400 bucks right there just for tires. Subtract $400 from $900 and what do you get? A whopping $500 for the cost of the set of wheels.... good luck finding them new and legal for that price!

Hey guys,

I have my wheels already, but if you're going to do a local GB, I might like to jump in for a set of tires only, if we can get some good prices...

Hope that might work.

I need some bling bling 42inch wheel from Rota for the bus!!!

O wait. Rota makes CP035 copies.. Ok, 35inch lightweight 120lb wheels. hehe

Keiho: regarding your group buy, does it have to be Subaru specific offset and bolt pattern and all 17"?

made in the philippines? I think if you look closely at some of the pics on their site, it looks like it's got the JapanWheel logo on there, but the pix on their site are too small to tell for sure...
if it is a JW, then that would mean you're running wheels made by the same company if you have stock wheels...
I know Honda, BMW, Suzuki, Toyota, Subaru, Mercedes Benz...etc etc have their OEM wheels made by JW
there was a discussion about the logo a long time ago in the general forum..

Well, I looked all over for the little "JW" logo on my Rota Subzeros - nope, not on there. Too bad.

As a little anecdote, the Racing Hart CP35's that I saw @ Technik did have the JW logo on it too!

just saw this today in the forsale forum...
I still think it looks kinda like the JW logo....but I think JW's logo usually is on there the other way around...(upside-down)

so what exactly does this logo look like? (yes, I am a cat ... very curious) the pic is still not that clear..
