Default radiator fan question!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP

i need a new radiator and fan set up. i have the radiator picked out but what im not sure about is how hard is it to wire in two of those universal 12in fans? someone said that the stock fans are dual speed so how is that going to work? there are one or two more wires on the car side of the plug then there willl be on the universal fans right? i have seen lots of WRX's and STI's with these simular setups so i figured it cant be that hard. and help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Branden

so it is a clutch fan? if it is youll have to tap into those wires that go to the clutch fan and run it to the electric fan, or you can do it the cool way and wire it up to a switch inside and controll when it comes on and goes off when needed

i dont know about the clutch fan, its a two fan setup and i was under the impression that one is on only when the ac is on and the other is controled by the ecu.

its a 02 WRX FYI

You are correct. The ECU controls both of them though and one is for the AC system. The two speed fans use 3 wires and single speed fans use two leads.

ok, with that said then all i need to do is find a universal replacement fan that is two speed with three wires, do they even make those? doesnt sound familiar.

come on guys, i really need some input here. i have to decide on what fan setup im going to do since i cant track down two stock fan blades seperately. should i just wait til i get the radiator so i can measure it to decide what size of universal fans im going to go with?

from what i have gathered the only bad thing about this idea is that they will only have one speed when they run but will still both be controled seperately from each other like how one runs souly by the ECU and the other off amd on with the AC.

before the fan blades broke the car never got above 1/3 on the temp gauge anyway. so i'm betting that not running at two different speeds on the fans wont ruin the car, RIGHT?

Unibomber, would love to here your input on this.

Check out the Mitsimoto fans...their radiator is supposed to fit OEM or their fans perfectly, so they might be cheaper if you want new...otherwise check the used forums for used stuff as there really is no bling with fans. Universals suck as the universally fit nothing.
