Transmission swap...help!

My 99 GC8 needs a new transmission and I was going to replace it with a donor from a newer car but want to know what manual transmissions will simply bolt into place without any modification. I have researched the problem, but could not find a list of donors for the older GC Scooby’s. I am looking at a MT from both an 04 2.5 RS and an 05 2.5 Legacy. The Legacy tranny has supper low miles, so I was hoping to go that route but want to make sure it will fit before dropping the $. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I found out through some more research that I should be ok as long as I get a Subaru transmission with the same final drive ratio of 4.44. Can anyone confirm this? Also does anyone know what new models use a MT with a FDR of 4.44?

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the offer but the final drive ratio on the 2.2, and 1.8L is 3.90…I need 4.44.

Where are all of the Subaru wizards that can help me find a newer transmission @ 4.44?
