Default 2004 sti fuel filter location?? someone help

I went to the subaru dealership this past week for a warranty issue and due to the mileage on my car the fuel filter was listed in the regular maintenance for it. I asked the guy at the dealership where it was and he said on the firewall. I looked all over and couldnt see it. I asked a guy who owns his own shop and has all-data and he looked it up and said it was in the tank, so apart the tank went in search of this filter, again with no luck. Did I look in the wrong places or is there even one besides the sock part on the bottom of the fuel pump?? I saw 2 access holes under the back seat so i took both apart. One was just a line and some wires and nothing in it that I saw of. The other, the fuel pump and sock. I asked another guy who owns his own shop and he said it might be just outside the tank in the lines. I havent checked there but if anyone knows where it is it would be the subaru fanatics. Someone give me some input please.

My car is a 2004 Subaru STI.

We have sticky threads here, had you read them, you'd have found http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=995498 and not had to post at all. I suggest you thank the author of that post.

whats up? ive got an 04 sti as well and just broke 60,00 miles. i put out a bit of gray smoke on harder acceleration, any guesses as to what may be causing this? i need to change my fuel filter as well, think it might be dirty gas or oil seapage into exhaust? and what would cause the seapage? any help is great
