Default Small Turbo on a 2002 2.5RS..turbo newbie..

Heh, okay, I know I'm going to get the usual "do a search" posts, but I'm not exactly sure what to search for.

My goal is to put a small turbo in my 2002 RS, first of all because I want a little bit of horsepower (as well as turbo whine is the Siren's call ) and I want to work on my engine without risking a royal mess up.

I'm asking for input, tell me if I'm stupid in the head because even this could blow my engine (I'm thinking only around 4psi..I think I saw someone who had one somewhere) and I have no idea what I'd need to have to run turbo, but I have time, and I am literate.

If anyone could point me in the direction of posts, web sites, or write me a little note, feel free. Thanks in advance.

I hate doing searches too, especially for highly technical stuff like your request. Since you live in NESIC-land, get yourself to one of the mega-meets and grab a guru. There are countless people who will talk your ear off, people who have been through hell and know how to do 2.5 turbo kits a number of different ways.

Like reading? Maximum Boost by Corky Bell is a great book about turbocharging non-turbo engines. All of the major booksellers have it online.

p.s.- Do a search!

Heh, thanks Greg. Anyone else with comments? I'm not sure if like a 4psi turbo would risk my engine or not. I also need basic what-I'd-need help, if anyone wants to give it.

I don't think there is any difference between the engine in the 2002 RS and the 2000 and 2001 RS and ECU.

So the concerns are the same. There are a fair number of 2k-2k1 RS's running forced induction. I don't know the rate of self destruction, though. Seems like most of the blow-ups are in 99's.

If you want to see what you'll need to go thru, you can watch me install mine (1998 RS) I live in Dedham and I'll be putting it in in the next 2-3 weeks.

The engine is strong, IMO. You can start with 4psi with no problems, but I can almost guaranty that you'll want to up the boost later.

My old Impreza is still running strong at 9psi of boost. It has nearly 60,000 miles on it. So the reliability is there with the right components.

Do it. You'll love it
