I just did this and it took about 15-30 min., pretty easy.

Question:

Why did some of the cars not come w/ the filter?

I have an 03 wrx and just opened it up for the first time and there was no filter in it? What would be the reasoning behind this? I don't get why the factory would not put one in if it was meant to be there because it's like a 10 cent part for them...

Does it run better w/o it? I opened it up and dropped one in because the interior was getting more dusty than I thought it should, and sure enough, no filter.

So was dropping one in OK?

Also, I got mine off Ebay for like 10 bucks, aircabinman or something like that, good deal.

Thanks

At one time the air cabin filter was optional equipment on our vehicles and it was up to the buyer to fork over more dough.

The aircabinman filters are not the same as the factory ones...OEM filters have a paper filter supported by a plastic honeycomb webbing and some herro written on it.

It is best to have a filter in for air quality purposes. If your driving your auto through the dust and mud your lungs and cabin will thank you to have one...not having one, however, gives you no more horsepower than having a sticker on your fender. HTH!

Good one!
But true, air filter used to be called Air Cleaning system, and it was like $80 bucks option...

The aircabinman ones will suffice though I assume?
50$ for an air filter seems ridiculous....

Sorry to revive an old thread but what year forester is this from? I have an 07 FXT and an 04 STi... does it use the same filter as the WRX, cause I'd like to just pick up a 5 pack from AirCabinMan, and I noticed he doesn't have a Forester option.

I believe this is the thread right here. You'll have to go through the pages and extract that information.
