Default EJ20g, SAFC? Budget tuning

So I'm planning to blow all my money on an EJ20g swap. As far as tuning, I can't afford a PowerFC and won't be able to at any point in the near future. I can get a SAFC or SAFC-II pretty cheap locally. Is this going to be okay for a lower-budget tuning option? If not, can anyone recommend me something that will be?

Why do you need another tuning option? Let the ECU do what it was designed to do. Those old ECU's are smarter than most people give them credit for being.

I use an SAFC-II with my ej20K, currently only monitoring and no tuning
i'm gonna need it when getting serious with my water injection kit.

So far, it took my 3" TBE and intake fine.

I'm curious to hear how one uses an AFC to monitor...

I used a TurboXS FC-BC Pro on my Ej20G, I would not really call it "budget" but I did get some good results from it.

IGN control is nice though..

I say stick with the stock ECU, until you have to upgrade the injectors.

Do a little more research before you make that face. That's all I'm gonna say.

There's a local place I can get a custom map done, the problem is that the jdm cars don't have obd-ii ports.

Forget a standalone and forget a tune. Use the stock ECU and make your own methanol injection kit for $40. Better than OpenECU and a tune, for my money.

Spray, defeat the knock on our terrible gas, add about 20 HP, get flames on upshifts, smile.

Which ECU came with your 20G?

It's a full front clip, so whichever ecu came stock on the 97 WRX Wagons.

Oooooooh, you got the best non-RA ECU then! Supposedly tuned even more aggressively than the Z4. I think it's an S8. That will slay in a sedan or coupe!
