Default Gumpert Apollo Officially Coming To America

Quote:
In case you were worried that America doesn't have quite enough rare, expensive, and insanely fast exotic cars, fear not--the Gumpert Apollo has officially arrived in the United States. The new record holder on the Top Gear track in England, the Apollo was designed by ex-Audi engineer Roland Gumpert and uses a twin-turbocharged Audi 4.2-liter V-8 to make stupid power.

The Apollo will arrive basically as a kit car, in much the same way that Noble models sneak around crash testing. Arizona-based Evolution Motorsports will install the drivetrains and ship the cars off to European Touch, a Los Angeles dealer that will serve as the sole outlet in the U.S. No word on final U.S. power numbers or price, but they'll surely both be quite high

Default Gumpert Apollo Speed Spied

Quote:
This is the Gumpert Apollo Speed, spied undergoing final testing at the Nurburgring this week.
The Gumpert Apollo Speed was launched as a concept car at this year's Geneva motor show, and the version testing here is a prototype.

The car features a reduced ride height and revised aerodynamics over the Gumpert Apollo Sport that is currently on sale, and is powered by an Audi-derived 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8 available with 591bhp, 690bhp or 790bhp.

The 690bhp version is capable of 0-62mph in 3.0sec, 124mph (200kph) in 8.9sec and goes on to a top speed of 224mph according to its makers.

Detailed changes to the Sport include a new induction system delivers fresh air to the engine, and revised wheel arches, rear end and an adjustable spoiler to direct the air over the body.

The prototype pictured here has also been tweaked from the concept car shown in Geneva - it is sporting a different rear wing and a black air intake can be seen above the roof.
It is known this is a test prototype rather than a final version of the Speed because of some of the similarities to the Sport. These include the rear lights

Although the standard-fit competition-style removable steering wheel and four-point harness suggest the car is more suited to track use, Gumpert will be offering it with the option of leather or Alcantara trim, air-con and a DVD entertainment system.

Gumpert is run by Roland Gumpert, former manager of the Audi Sports department. He led the team to 25 World Rally Championship wins and four World Rally Championship titles.

Prices for the Gumpert Apollo Sport start around £260,000, suggesting the Speed will cost more than £300,000.

Too bad an ex-Audi designer didn't join Mr. Gumpert when he started this up. I still want one badly of course!

The styling is kind of ugly. I see it tries to look like a Veyron, but just doesn't have the class. I think in terms of super cars, the Pagani Zonda is most stylish

Looks aren't bad, but that name has to go. Imagine telling the valet to go get your Gumpert. He'll be looking all over the parking lot for a mids 80s Volare looking car.

Sure it's ugly, but it's a mean, 'I'll trash whatever you put me against' ugly. I'd take it.
