Default Hard start after clutch change

As the title says, the car is having a tough time turning over. New battery, old battery, it doesn't turn over like it used to.

2002 WRX, 85000 miles, stage 2. I put an Exedy OE Replacement in with a new standard weight flywheel.

What to look at next?

Do you have a good ground to the block?

Did you resurface your fly and use red threadlocker on the bolts?

The ground to the block wasn't touched...but I'll double check it.

I had a resurfced flywheel, but did not use loctite. Also, it was an instantly noticeable difference...not like a bolt walked out over time, if that is what you're getting at.

Could clutch pedal free play have anything to do with this?

EDIT: I just realized I totally misread your post. Nevermind my question about resurfacing. The Loctite *might* have something to do with it but not likely. If the guy messed around with your clutch pedal, then yes, it definitely could. Like it's semi-engaged and the fly can't spin off the starter because it's being held back? Dunno. Did you do the clutch yourself?

Possible starter issue? Could be wiring to the starter.

I did do the clutch myself, and what you're describing was my theory...the clutch isn't getting far enough off the flywheel and so the starter has to work a lot harder. It's worth noting I also changed the clutch line (and subsequently bled the clutch), but I'm pretty confident in my bleed job, the clutch feels great.

I'm going to try messing with the clutch free-play adjustment and see what happens. I'll also double check the starter wiring to make sure it all looks solid.

Feel free to toss out any other ideas, I'll post if I find something new.

Solved...it was a bad ground to block. No scratch that, the ground was completely disconnected.

My fuel gauge magically works again, too.

Thanks for the help!
