Default Super GT 2008 - Round 7 at Twin Ring Motegi

Known as “Stop-and-Go” circuit, Twin Ring Motegi has many short straights and long perimeter corners which necessitate cars to accelerate and rapidly decelerate a corner after a corner. Overtaking would be a difficult task on such a circuit which increases the importance of where to start the race. Indeed, qualifying practice will be more important compare to other circuits.

Round 7 introduces a new format for practice and qualifying rounds, this new format puts more emphasis on team strategy.

There are three practice sessions before the qualifying super lap. Teams must finish finish in the top few positions in order to continue in the following practice sessions. Those below the top positions are knocked-out, and take their starting position based on the position in this practice session.

Strategy is required since both drivers are required to participate in these session. If the slower team driver is tasked with the first practice session, the team risks being knocked out. If the faster driver is used for the first practice session, he will be unable to be used to attain the top placement in the qualifying lap. If he is used later, the slower driver may be knocked out in the initial practice laps.

The Cusco Dunlop Subaru Impreza is slated to place high in this race, as it has qualified in 4th place, and carries none of the "winners weight" that the other top-placing teams are currently carrying.
