Default 2008-2009 NBA Thread

- Brand to the Sixers
- Artest to the Rockets
- Baron/Camby to the Clippers
- Matt Barnes to the Suns
- Ewing Jr. to play in dads Garden
- Posey to the Hornets
- Childress to.....Olympiacos?
- and many more...

The regular season is set to tip off in about a month as you hoopsters know. So what's the big story at the beginning of this season? There is a lot going on so there probably isn't one right answer. Aside from off season trades there is even more going on. The Heat and Bulls both picked up what look to be great prospects in Beasley and Rose, Kobe is delaying surgery on his pinky, Shaq announces his career change to law enforcement in 2 years, and the Seattle Supersonics are now the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Western Division for now still appears dominant I think. There was a lot of off season trading in the West, but most of the key trades were done within the division. Greg Oden is also set to play finally.

The East looks like it will be changing, but still in a rebuilding phase. Key changes were the draft picks by the Heat and Bulls, Elton Brand signing with the Sixers, D'Antoni trying to clean Isiah's mess, and the Pistons staying mostly the same.

So OT hoopsters, who do you have in the Finals this year? I love my Celtics, but I really want to see Nash get a ring.

Sigh... go Suns. I'm sure I'll get into it as much as I did last season... my interest level was somewhere between 1.1 and 1.4 out of 10.

So far worth mentioning...Barnes, is a big pick up for us. And heres hoping our new coaching staff can make up for what our old one lacked.

Bynum back! Time for Lakers to take what's rightfully theirs. Another MVP for Kobe too!

Yeah, I was stoked when I read that they picked up Singletary. Kid was awesome to watch play in college (my sister went to UVA, went to a LOT of games)... I think he'll make a decent backup PG.

I agree. I kind of wanted to see them groom Strawberry into a better offensive player though, as he was an excellent defender.

Agreed, I was sad to hear they had let him go. I thought he had great potential to play within our system.

Jermaine O'Neal to the Raps!

Gonna be a strong front court this year, and with Jose Calderon leading the show at the point, hopefully good things can happen!

Singletary is all-around better, I'd say. We'll see how he actually plays, but losing DJ isn't exactly leaving a gaping hole on either side of the court.

@ UVA, Singletary always reminded me of Damon Stoudemire back in his U of A days.

I'm happy the Lakers didn't pull the trigger for Artest. The only player they lost was Turiaf, no biggie, Bynum is getting healthy, they've got the best starting five in the league and if the bench plays somewhere near the level they did last year and everyone stays relatively healthy, this will be a 60+ win team.

Watch out for Portland this year.

I think the Suns time has passed. The West has improved while the Suns are pretty much stagnant. Barnes plays as much D as Amare and Nash. That equals zero. Will be cool to see Lopez out there with Shaq.

The Jazz will be improved, the Lakers as well with Bynum back. There is always the Rockets with Artest, Spurs, NO and Dallas.

I really am looking forward to seeing Portland. That team is going to be good with Bayless, Roy, Aldridge and Oden. They also have Rudy Fernandez who was lights out during the olympics.

East is pretty much the same with Miami being the most improved. Celtics and Pistons will be around again along with the Cavs and the Wizards.

I just hope the Bulls improve and make the playoffs. Will have to get my Rose jersey soon.

i can't wait for the sixer's season to begin...i think brand is just what the team needed. they rely way to much in iguodala. he's a good guy, but not a franchise player. if only brand had been around when iverson was in town...

I wonder how big of a deal Ginobili's heel injury is from the olympics. Did you hear anything new on that front?

Me too. The Sixers and Portland are going to be the teams to really turn around it seems.

He had surgery this month I believe. I've read his injury is usually healed in a few months so I'd guess no later than Christmas time or at least by All Star break.

Hold on so he won't likely be playing at all until then?

Hopefully Mo Williams can take some of the load off LeBron and the cavs can get back to the finals. Can't wait for the season to start.
