Angry I have a sunroof that only opens...and doesn't close...

ok I have a 1999 subaru legacy SUS lmited edition. Today on the way home I decided to let some of the hot air out by opening my sunroof....but then when I went to close it...it wouldn't close. The motor runs like it's closeing it...but it's not actually close it. I can run the motor to close it until it stops....Then I can pull the sunroof shut...but it won't put the back end up to do a complete seal.

Anyways are there any cheap fixes for this. I really don't care too much for the sunroof...so if there is a aftermarket part that I could use that isn't electric...that would be completely fine with me. Or i'm open to any suggestions.

I have an 01 so it might not be the same but when I bought it there was an allen wrench in the tool kit and I was like .

After reading the manual I learned you can pull something off (map light cover? I don't recall), insert the allen wrench and close your sunroof. Check you manual (download from my.subaru.com if you don't have one)

Edit: I may be mistaken, found the manual online and it's the moonroof:

ok I followed that and it just doesn't do the job. See my motor is running fine...but whatever grabs the sunroof to pull it back...is off or something. I may do a complete teardown of the roof lining to get to the sunroof assembly this weekend if I don't find the answer to my problems on here. Hopefully if it works...then I can make a DIY guide.

However...as a temp fix...I just wedged some stuff to get the window as close to a complete seal as possible.

If you can't figure out a fix, you could yank the whole assembley out and replace it with a peice of lexan.

You'd have a sunroof that only closes and doesn't open, but I suppose that'd be more convenient then the situation now.

Dude, check to see if there is anything blocking the "arms" from moving back down. Mine did the same thing and I was pissed. Got out and did a 10 min lookover and found out a little piece of mulch or something got stuck in between the moving arms. That was all it took and it wedged itself in there and wouldnt allow it to close. Motor was running just like yours but wouldnt close. Check the "gutters" for any debris
