Default 95 AWD L swap to JDM EJ20G WRX

Like the title says i am doing a swap on my 95 L

I HAVE:

97 GF8 front clip from Venus Auto
clip includes drive shaft, Rear diff, front/rear Axles, guage cluster, what i think is a full engine/dash harness, and every thing under the hood (I think)
Agx struts
02 Wrx front/rear springs
3" cat back

What im pritty sure i need:
USDM down pipe

Questions:
*How can u tell what rear end u have?
*Why does my engine not have coil on plug?
*Can i use the cooler looking JDM guage cluster?
*Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for this engine or a pin out for the ecu so i can splice it in?
*What is stock boost for my enigne and what can i run off a TD04?
*Lastly why is my red line 7000 vs the sti of 7800?

If i im forgetting something PLEASE feel free to let me know

*Edit* is it ok to post pics of the swap in this thread?

I will try and answer a few of your q's, but not all. Since it's a 97 clip, its most likely an EJ20K. I'm pretty sure only the 20G's were coil on plug. If your clip isn't from an STi it's not gonna rev to 7800, the WRX's had the lower redline. Thats all I can tell ya, hope it helps.

Oh yeah, the ECU controls your redline, so you can just switch it out. You should be able to use the JDM cluster too, but I make no guarantee. Im pretty sure all the plugs are the same.

So what your saying is that the only difference is the ecu? Did the sti have different valve springs or anything? I really dont want to blow this engine up by over reving it.'

Second is it possible to convert it to a coil on plug set up being that it is better? i have ready posts on converting the 02+ coils to work with the ej20g but have not seen anything about taking a non coil on plug engine and converting it.

you might have one of those Ej20G's with EJ20K eletronics they were only in the wagons IIRC. that cluster isn't plug and play also.

Sti's had red intake manifolds too

My biggest issue right now is that all of the wiring diagrams i have are for a ej20g so if this is a ej20k it is not going to be the same is it? I need to know so i can get this thing in my car.

3 plugs on the ECU is EJ20K wiring.

EJ20G would have 4 plugs on the ECU.

So mechanicly the swap is done engine/tranny are in rear end is swapped out. I think the wiring is done. But my engine only cranks a sputters a bit. I checked fuel and spark both are present. I have not hooked up the compression checker yet. I did put a new t-Belt on. When i line up all the ticks and pull the pin on the tensioner, i then spin the engine around to check clearences before i try and start it. But after a few turns the lines done all line up anymore the 2 cams on each side stay in time with each other but the driver side cams are advanced 1 tooth. I tried putting them just 1 tooth back on the belt but then it has the reverse effect it trails 1 tooth.

Needless to say i want to get this think running and am not sure what to do.

Could the issue be im using the wrong t-belt? EJ20k with a 02 wrx t-belt?

Intercooler makes me think it's a regular WRX but I could be wrong. I've never seen an 88 ECU before. Interesting.

It's not really a question of whether the 20G or 20K is better than the other. Both have their pluses and minuses. The 20G has a reputation for being very reliable and strong but it's not as powerful stock. The 20K when it's tuned right can be a monster. Hotter cams and STI internals. But they spin main bearings all the time because Subaru used the lower spec 2.5RS bearing for some reason. I've read about 10 with spun bearings on these boards in the past few years.

It's a question of how mechanically inclined you want to be on your motor and what your goals are with the car.

SO if the vin and engine code plate was removed from the car how do i find out what model i have on that chart?

I also got the engine in the car and wired. ALL the wiring going to the engine was uncut i modified the rubber gromits and rerouted it all so i didnt have to cut any of it. I wired in (what i think is everything else) using source that jaxx gave me. The engine just cranked and sputtered a little bit. SO i checked compression and it was 140psi on 1,2,3 and 0 on 4. So i pulled the heads and am having them rebuild right now. I really dont think that was my only issue though. A engine should run, not well, but it should start and run on 3 cyliders. I checked spart check fuel it was sparking and it was getting fuel. I don't know if it was sparking at the correct time though. I did think for a secound that my ecu was bad or was not the correct one... Any ideas of what to look for? What to check?

*Edit* o have the dash out so there are dash conectors that are unplugged does this matter? To me i wouldnt think so but u never know...

nice im doing basically the same swap, v3 sti into 93 impreza fwd (converted to awd)
Jaxx has lots of wiring diagrams, he might be able to help.
that cluster wont work, its similar to a USDM RS cluster and doesnt fit in the dash. you could do a dash conversion or use your stock tach with some modifications. i think your JDM transmission is electronic odometer but your impreza is cable odometer.
