Default WARNING! - Do Not Buy JDM Parts From J-Spec Auto in Henrico VA

WARNING! - Do Not Buy JDM Parts From J-Spec Auto in Henrico VA

I purchased a front end conversion for my WRX. I was repeatedly lied to by the sales representative Thomas. I was told that it would come with Fog Lights, but when I showed up to purchase the front end I was informed that I would be given a credit instead of the fog lights. I was told that they looked on eBay and found plenty of sets for $50. Turned out that the credit of $50 wasn't even enough to buy one fog light, much less a pair.

The next lie told to me was that it came with HIDs that were aftermarket, but were still "plug and play". After being told by my mechanic that they would require extensive modifications and that they wouldn't function properly anyway once installed I contacted J-Spec again. They informed me that the only thing they could offer was store credit towards future purchases. We went around and around and I eventually gave up since I won't need any future JDM parts. I honestly wouldn't want to buy parts from them anyway even with store credit. They're not to be trusted.

J-Spec Auto located in Henrico, VA clearly has no respect for their customers. I would avoid buying anything from them. I can't imagine how poorly they treat their customers when it comes to engine/transmission problems.

Did they say if they were HID inserts in oem housings or full aftermarket hid headlights ?

If they were just HID bulbs in oem housings then yes your mechanic was right, putting hid lighting in halogen housings gives poor beam control, spreading out to much and often blinding oncoming drivers.

For the fog lights, you should have said order me a set then if they are only $50. Did they post pictures before you bought the front end and did it show fog lights ?

Yea supposed to be complete HIDs. No pictures of fog lights, but they told me they had plenty in stock and would include them with the price. Basically just lied to me over and over again. I should have had them order them, you're right. The most offensive part is the constant "future store credit" instead of just giving me a partial refund to cover the cost.

Kind of curious about their reply as they have a good reputation here in the RVA.

Honestly, jdm to usdm (or vice versa) conversion of any kind are not for amateurs who outsource the work to their local mechanic. You should know how everything goes together and know what to look for before buying. Otherwise stay away from this type of modification. However, if you were getting a bad vibe about the deal. Just don't go through with it, no one is pointing a gun to your head forcing you buy a front conversion with missing parts. Personally, if the parts are not all there, I would not go through with it, because that's the deal breaker for me. I would never trust a salvage parts vendor to come through at a later date.

Hmm..

I've been in contact with Thomas at Jspec for the past 8 months, have had numerous conversations with him and Sam via email, they are great down to earth people. I have ordered 1 motor for my self. And helped 5 customers of mine source motors through Jspec auto. Every motor we received was exactly what was pictured. Also for each engine we have ordered they have included a "Avcs harness" at no extra charge. They have gone above and beyond for me.

Thanks to Jspec there is now my car V9 ej207 swapped 03 WRX wagon, my bosses shop car with a v9 spec c ej207, and 2 v9 s204 swapped cars running in the metro Detroit area, as well as 1 v8 ej207 and a JDMWRX Avcs swap.

Sounds like you had some miscommunication, for potential buyers, the guys at Jspec are great people with great customer service. I have not one complaint to say. 10/10 will buy more parts from them And continue to do so.

In defense of J-Spec;

Our shop, that does numerous JDM swaps, has purchased several engines and transmissions from J-Spec in the last year.

Dealing with Thomas is an absolute breeze. he is very knowledgeable and honest.

Every package we have ever received has been very well packed and shipped without any problems.

All my questions and concerns are addressed and answered promptly.

Having purchased from other JDM importers, J-Spec is BY FAR the most reputable and the parts are of the highest quality.

HIGHLY recommend J-Spec, Thomas and the entire crew. Keep up the great work and will continue to use them exclusively.

I purchased a 6speed swap from them. I was allowed to go to the back and inspect every piece before i exchanged money. Also when i had an issue with a rear knuckle that did not line up correctly they took care of it by having another ready for me by the time I got there. No hassle or argument. During the whole process, I was provided with the best customer service. I would recommend J-spec to anyone. I will buy from them again.
