My buddy took his Evo IX MR out to the track last night, it has a turboback and some ****ty cams with a basetune on 20lbs of boost. He was nice enough to let me drive it a few times. The last two runs are me driving. It amazes me how quickly the car will go through the first three gears and then have NO top end. Enjoy ![]()

Nice looking car...you definitely got it moving a bit better than your buddy. It definitely looks like it's weaker in the back half. Looks like it has a lot more potential too...still rollin out though.

Two completely different cars but I like my STI better. My car is quite a bit faster even when my car had just a turboback exhaust and tune, I went 12.50 @ 110.9 with it. It sucks to launch because there it feels like there is no power leaving the line, even with 10lbs of boost off the two-step. The 6 speed in the evo, while being considerably weaker, is much more comfortable to drive and easier to hit the gears quickly. The evo also seems like it just wants to go around corners super fast whereas you have to wrestle my car around quite a bit more.

When both cars have the stock turbo and bolt-ons, the Evo kills the STi powerwise, and this is coming from a guy who owns 3 Subarus. I just tuned a stock turbo Evo 9 with a bunch of bolt-ons and it made 360whp/360wtq on straight 91 octane. You can't even come close to the whp with a stock turbo STi on pump gas. Evo's are fun cars and super low stress to tune. If you make them knock, the car just says: "Don't worry bud, I hardly even felt that. Just give it another go"

Evos are faster with stock turbos for one reason. THEIR STOCK TURBOS ARE GINORMOUS. I've compared my friends evo 9 to my vf30 lol, his turbo could inhale mine. But their topend is boring. My buddies evo has cams and a fpgreen. Its hella fast but seems boring after the inital pull.

I enjoy seeing threads like these. No hard feelings, no **** the evo, **** the sti, just straight up car appreciation through experience.

I thoroughly enjoy driving both and given the chance would own both. STI for time attack fun and Evo for drag/street race mayhem.

If the EVO aged as well as the Subaru did I think we have a clean winner... The Subaru is a really well built car. The EVO's I have driven seam to worn out and loose for their age. Even though it's harder to make the Subaru fast it's still my first pick.
