You sure the hole wasn't in your lung rather than your heart?

I have that too -- it's neat to see how it changes from day to day.

I also have Raynaud's syndrome, which isn't really odd either, just annoying.

I'm pretty average...but my younger brother, on the other hand (this will be pun-intended).

He was born with the bones in his wrists fused together (I don't know the correct terminology). This means that he cannot turn his hands over to say, collect change, play guitar, look at his palms, etc. I guess he can have some sort of surgery to make it go away once he's old enough (I can't remember the age), but he's gone 20 years like this so far. He's figured out ways to compensate.

Hmmm. I wear my contacts entirely too long, but the eye doc has never mentioned this to me...hopefully I don't wear them that long that it hurts my eyes...

Heh, I had a motorcycle accident where I slid shoulder first into a 6" kerb at 30mph. Dislocated my shoulder and chopped the top off the ball bit like an egg. Hurts like a mf on cold days.

Default You Asked For It

Oh yeah . . . bizarre . . . .

Bizarre health conditions are my middle name. Read the fine print for the details.

Neurocardiogenic Syncope: In this condition blood vessels tend to expand, which leads to pooling of blood in the lower parts of the body. As a result, less blood reaches the brain and this causes fainting. Neurocardiogenic syncope occurs in predisposed individuals in the following settings:after prolonged periods of quiet upright posture (such as standing in line) after being in a warm environment (such as in hot summer weather, a hot crowded room, a hot shower or bath) immediately after exercise after emotionally stressful events (having blood drawn, being scared or anxious) some individuals get symptoms soon after eating, when blood flow has shifted to the intestinal circulation during the process of digestion. Individuals that are prone to neurocardiogenic syncope manifest a spectrum of symptoms ranging from fatigue, vague lightheadedness, recurrent dizziness, near fainting, palpitations, nausea, unexplained sweating, joint or muscle aches, to the most dramatic "the faint". Some people may only have one or more of these symptoms but never progress to fainting. Prolonged fatigue after a modest amount of physical activity is occasionally seen. This post-exertional fatigue can last 24-72 hours, and interferes with many daily activities.

Premature Ventricular Contractions and Premature Atrial Contractions: Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are premature heartbeats originating from the ventricles of the heart. PVCs are premature because they occur before the regular heartbeat. During a premature ventricular contraction, the ventricle electrically discharges (and contracts) prematurely before the normal electrical discharges arrive from the SA node. These premature discharges are due to electrical “irritability” of the heart muscle of the ventricles, and can be caused by heart attacks, electrolyte imbalances, lack of oxygen, or medications. Patients with frequent premature ventricular contractions such as bigeminy (every other heartbeat is a PVC), couplets (two consecutive PVCs), or triplets (three consecutive PVCs) often report no symptoms. But in rare occasions they may report weakness, dizziness, or syncope (passing out). This is because frequent premature ventricular contractions can diminish the ability of the heart to pump blood to the other organs (diminished cardiac output), resulting in low blood pressure. Premature ventricular contractions in healthy individuals without high blood pressure and heart diseases do not pose any health risks. Beta blockers such as propranolol (Inderal), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), and atenolol (Tenormin) usually are given. Premature atrial contractions (PACs) are a type of premature heart beat or irregular heart beat or arrhythmia which start in the upper two chambers of the heart, also called atria. These aren't serious, and they frequently go away on their own. In many cases doctors are unable to determine a cause. Some cells in the heart start to fire or go off before the normal heart beat is supposed to occur. These can be cells that are damaged or sick from a virus, or from some other cause that a doctor can't determine. Sometimes people who have them feel a skipped beat. In many cases, the person feels nothing. The PACs give me chest pains.

Vestibular Hypersensitivity (aka Vertigo or Labrynthine Hypersensitivity): Vestibular (inner ear) disorders can cause dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, hearing changes, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and other symptoms, with potentially devastating effects on a person's day-to-day functioning, ability to work, relationships with family and friends, and quality of life.

Vestibular Migraine with Aura including Migraine-Associated Vertigo: In migraine-associated vertigo, the patient reports a history of acute-onset vertigo that lasts minutes to a few hours or many hours to days. Vertigo may precede, follow, or appear simultaneously with the headache (migraine without aura), and vestibular symptoms range from mild to severe. Vertigo may occur with the additional symptom of aura (ie, visual and somatosensory paresthesias) before a headache (ie, migraine with aura). Less commonly, vertigo is a symptom of basilar migraine, which is suspected when the vertigo is accompanied by binocular visual deficits, diplopia, dysarthria, hearing loss, ataxia, or decreased consciousness.

Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) - keep in mind that they were not able to diagnose me with narcolepsy, just EDS, when reading this. EDS takes the form of persistent tiredness, lack of energy and sleepiness. The patient has to expend an ever greater effort on remaining awake but even if he succeeds in staving off sleep, if it is in vain because in this state he is incapable of performing many tasks competently. When the compulsion to sleep is very strong may appear to be hopelessly drunk. The only wise course for him to adopt is to take a nap before attempting to complete the task he is facing. The patient may also suffer sleep attacks when he falls asleep quite involuntarily. Indeed if he fights sleepiness and refuses to take a nap it is likely that sleep will overcome him without warning. He can also suffer 'micro-sleeps' very often without being conscious of having slept. It is very difficult for the normal person to accept excessive daytime sleepiness as being out of the patient's control. Even family members with a rudimentary understanding of the disorder often conclude that the patient "just isn't trying hard enough".

I also have a mild astigmatism in my right (dominant) eye which leads to more dizziness and fatigue if I forget my glasses or wear contacts instead - I can only wear hard contacts because my corneas are too steep for soft contacts or Lasik. I used to take Toprol XL (PACs, PVCs, NCS), Cymbalta (migraines, anxiety related to all conditions), Midodrine (NCS), and Diazepam (vertigo). I now take a smaller dose of the diazepam only.

I've also had 3 cancer scares in the past year.

Had some bizarre surgeries as a child. Was a miracle baby.

Of course, I do all this ^ while I work full time, go to college full time and run 5-7 triathlons, a few 5ks, a half marathon and a marathon every year. No way am I gonna let any of this crap get me down. (I could race my tris and marathons as a "challeneged athlete" but I don't.)

I have like the perfect skin type for this fungus, so it constantly comes back. It's not "contagious" unless you have the same skin type. My girlfriend hasn't gotten it.
