Default Need advice, want to sell/trade 4Runner for a Wrangler

Hey guys/girls, I need a little advice. I want to sell or trade my 1994 Toyota 4Runner for a new or used Jeep Wrangler. I don't know anything about Jeeps, all I want is a 6 cylinder, 4WD, manual tranny and soft top. Does anybody have any advice or hook-ups for me? The 4Runner is loaded and in good condition. Thanks.

-Wes

I'd sell the 4Runner and then buy the Jeep, so you can get exactly what you want. There are some Toyota boards off of http://www.off-road.com that you could list the 4Runner for sale on.

Good luck!

I am not sure what year was the changeover...but the Wrangler's front suspension was changed from leaf springs to coil-overs...Get the coil-overs, they are WAAAAAYYYY better

I'm lazy but the last redesign a few years back brought over the coilover setup from the older Grand Cherokee ... whenever the grill switched back to round headlights from the square ones would be the year... If you find the year you've got a winner

YJs aren't the greatest to build. They were the square-headlight ones form 1986 until the current bodystyle started in 1997, the TJ. The coilspring suspension on the TJs is much better. Or get the first real Jeep to be built in a while, the Rubicon. Front and rear lockers along with Goodyear MTs from the factory.

Consider building the 4Runner if you want to offroad. Toys are overbuilt. I have had a couple of them. No, the 4 cylinder isn't the fastest but they run forever. I could tell you some tales about what my truck and my buddy's old 4Runner went through. Yiou get a Jeep your getting that Chrysler reliability with it too. Consider a Tacoma extended cab with the TRD package. 4 Wheel & Of-road said that the Taco had all-around bettter capabilites than the Jeeps and Hummers.

Oh yea, how much you want for the 4Runner? Its a 3.0 I would imagine. If it is, have the headgaskets had their recall work done yet? A guy I know got his done for free at 140k miles by Toyota.

And yes, off-road.com is a good place for info.

I prefer YJs personally. I'm not sure why, they are just more rugged to me. If you do get a YJ get a 91+ because that is when the went to FI. The TJ will be better off-road stock and arguably modified. Personally, I wouldn't go past the abilities of a well built YJ as I doubt most people would.

I neglected to mention what my favorite Jeep is: Kaiser M715!!!

I think those are the toughest looking ones ever built.

Michigan doesn't offer any rockcrawling so flex isn't a big issue. Other than trailriding there is pretty much Silver Lake Sand Dunes and mudding. You can have a lot of fun with a vehicle that isn't highly modified though. Just use your head and don't get in over it.

Oh yea, and the biggest rule: Don't go out wheelin alone.

Ya, I had an SJ. I loved that thing to death. I will get another one someday. My parents had a 90 YJ, it was a fun vehicle admitedly, but I liked my SJ more in the end. Being able to strech out and take a nap is your car is . Why exactly do you want a Wrangler?

Suzuki Samis are cool too. I knew a guy that had one and he enjoyed rolling it on several occasions. All he really did to it was a spring flip and 31s. Lights out bumper tag was a favorite pastime of his too.

TJ, YJ, SY . . . . . ANybody know what an EJ is?
