Default Not a subie, GTR TUNING FUN

Today I had the opportunity to team up with John@Cobb and tune my first GTR. Let me start by saying this car is everything they say it is, and then some. From top to bottom, the car is just an amazing machine. It just has this nasty attitude that we all love in our cars. The tone from the stock car was just amazing and I cant wait until the owner gets his exhaust on the car.
Some background on the car.... Well it is 100% bone stock. Car was running in the 11.7-11.8@120-121 range. The owner has a wheel bearing company that makes ceramic BB units for all cars... he made a set for his shiny new GTR and went 11.4@123 after the bearing swap.
The car base lined @ 440/438 stock. After some fiddling with the AFR, Timing and cam timing we were able to get 469.8/457. All the gain was in the middle and upper power band, which is right were we want it. There re ranges of 45+whp gains in the mid range, so we were very happy with that. Peak numbers didn't really reflect the power output. We cant wait to see what it runs now.... then add in test pipes, more boost and cat-back.. I think it might just be able to sneak into the 10s with just those mods. After that the owner has already started planning the turbo upgrades!
Sorry about the wet dyno chart.. I dropped it on the way home...
If you look at the AFR you can see we added a bunch of fuel down low, from the factory its in the 13s.. If you follow the TQ gains which you can actually see, the HP graph looks the same over the baseline.
We should have some track numbers this coming week.
I really want to thank John @ Cobb and COBB for getting this done. These cars are going to kick some major ass with very few mods.

Thats awesome! a customer of mine has one and just brought it to AMS. I can't wait to see what they do with it. the car stock is amazing. they also have a c6 zo6 that we did some work to. It makes 525 at the wheels and the GTR can almost keep up with it.

For a car with 0 mods it was pretty cool to see a big gain in the power band. I am sure once we get the boost up to the 15-18 range like we wanted it will be in the 500whp range. This specific car with 500whp will run 10s. The car was 4030lbs with the owner in it when it ran the 11.4.... so much for hp vs weight calculations....

It's strange that they run them so lean under boost. I dynoed a 335i and it was mid 13 afr until 4k or so with all the boost in... I bet those wheel bearings are no joke. They have some pretty serious efforts in WRC I was able to look at years ago.

Congrats on being able to get into some new platforms!

Better rethink that and tell your gf that once you finish RESIDENCY you'll be picking one up. Figure that you have another 3 years AT LEAST (I've been in residency for 5 years now) before you'll be making anything that even resembles an income. Trust me, you won't be buying a GT-R with the amount they'll be paying you (I can barely afford my Subaru )

To the OP, the GTR is an incredible machine. Keep us updated on the progress when the owner starts modding.

www.advancedhorsepowerresearch.com
They are wheel bearings, but he also does ceramic bearing pullies etc.. The guy is pretty sick.
That is the website, they are still under construction with the new site, but he has been around for a while.

As for the car's factory AFR, I have noted this with a few BMW's 1/3 series turbo cars I have done as well. Probably just for gas mileage

I will keep everyone updated on progress with this car.. I'm hoping we beat everyone into the 10s.

Alot of people thought this car was going to be like how the NSX is now and or when the supra FIRST came out = Overpriced since it has a "nissan badge"
With spending 90k+ on it you would rather buy a Porsche
But looks like that is all false since there putting out some great numbers both dyno/track with little to No work done to it.
This car is Sex on the beach and I already seen more of these on the street than the 08 sti for example.
This is just the begining of New Platform to mod and Jr is there to kick start it
Congrats to You Meng .. now go get that b1tch in the 10s!!!

You don't just take them out... You tune them so they act right.

The GTRs curve was not like a delay though... Its kinda like the BMW's do it, they stay lean for a good portion of the power band and slowly slope into richer afrs.. Subaru's have a wall were it kicks in.

i dont think ive ever seen any of my tuners mess with the CL/OL parameters besides just getting rid of the time delay.

besides, doesnt zeroing the delays and basically just running OL all the time pretty much net the same results if your OL table is setup correctly?

sorry for the OT
