Cool 89 Reasons Why My Suby Sits in the Garage

I recently purchased a Yamaha Zuma 125 for my short commute to grad school every day. So far I am totally loving it. This little thing is a blast to ride and gets about 89 mpg (probably a bit less the way I ride ) It has a decent amount of power, but since I'm still in the break in period I haven't completely wrung it out yet. I've hit 50 mph before realizing it so I think it might hit 55 or so if I kept it wound out for a while. My school is currently undergoing a lot of construction so parking has been a nightmare until now. Now I can ride up onto the sidewalk and park right next to my building . I also wear a full face helmet, gloves, a padded jacket and full toed shoes at all times and I get a lot of funny looks from people as I gear up and then hop on a little scooter . But hey, gear is cheap and medical bills sure aren't.

Time for some pics.

and a few pics of the Suby just to prove I still love her.

Thanks for looking.

More than I had planned to pay that's for sure. Unfortunately there was really no room for negotiating. I had a deposit on it but it sat on the showroom floor for one day before I could go pick it up and they had three offers on it during the course of the day. According to one of the salesmen there they have sold more scooters in the last five months than they have in the last five years.

I looked at the Ruckus but I ride on some fairly busy roads and people down here drive pretty quick so I felt I needed a bit more power to be safe .

125 cc's right? you get up to 55? you think you could go faster? i plan on one sometime soon too..looking into the 150cc's..i think with my weight i'll fly. madison campus is hell and driving is not an option..no dorming this year..not on busline..i have to walk everywhere..if i get a scooter i want to be able to take it to the store too..and i hate it when im driving and i get behind scooters going 30-35 in a 40 mph..so i want to be able to MOVE.

wow this thread is funny...

Youre smart using the scooter. Universities now and days are PACKED and you would have to leave more than an hour early in order to get a spot. Good stuff!

I only have to go about 2.5 miles or so its pretty quick on the scooter, but people that drive in half to fight some nasty traffic and the parking lot is a ways from class. I park right outside my lecture hall.

I have seen quite a few mods for the 50 cc Zuma's but since this model just came out about a month ago I'm not sure how much is out there for it yet. I would love to get an exhaust though. The stock exhaust has a cat and appears very restrictive so without it I might get a bit more power.

It is close to a motorcycle, but being down in SoCal does not help, especially if you want comprehensive. Apparently a lot of these things get stolen or something because its higher than I expected but oh well. I definitely save money on gas. Gas station attendants give me weird looks when I hand them a handful of quarters.

I have one sitting in the garage but I haven't found the time to throw it on yet. I was gonna go Stage II with a Protune and a few other power mods but I decided to buy the scooter instead. Now that will just have to wait a few years.

Sorry didn't see your question the first time through. I don't believe that it will go any faster than 55 (and I only weigh about 140). That is probably the limit and it will only hit 55 if I really wind it out for a while. There is a decent amount of room beneath the seat, enough for a few groceries, but I believe that you can get a box on the rear if you want more storage space. Good luck with your search.
