Plain and simple, the rear stay bushing creates a more postive snap into gear. It also helps to remove that vague feeling in the shifter when it has reached the end of it's throw travel. Trust me - you really do need it...

Starting in 2008 Subaru changed the shift lever. Aftermarket manufacturers did not change their design.

just FYI i ended up getting a custom (from Niles Patel) FSB of 31.75mm. we have too much bodyroll on our cars and even a 27mm will not cut it for autoX.
