Default Audi S3 Offers Seven Gears with Dual-Clutch Transmission

Quote:
INGOLSTADT, Germany Audi will offer its first two-pedal model of the performance S3 hatchback to European customers with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The three-door S3 with the S-tronic dual-clutch transmission can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than a manual-transmission-equipped model. The transmission also improves the car's combined fuel economy figure by 0.8 mpg to 34 mpg.

British customers will tack an extra $2,600 onto the purchase price of their S3 if they opt for the dual-clutch gearbox. Dealers will begin taking orders for dual-clutch S3s beginning on October 1.

The S3, which is not sold in the U.S., makes 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and has a top speed of 155 mph.

Audi has also tweaked the car's Quattro all-wheel drive to improve performance. The S3's system now reacts faster, with its central clutch quickening the response time to redistribute power between front and rear wheels.

Then go buy a R32, it's just about the same power wise, and you get a 2 door hatch with a DSG.

REALLY like this car, but as i've been new car shopping I was a bit overwhelmed with Audi's current pricing, if they brought this here it'd be $44k+ with the DSG. There's a lot of other vehicles to choose from once you pass $40k, and this is way down the list in that category.

but we'll never see it, so no biggie.

An R32 gets 19 mpg to the S3's 34 mpg. That's a big difference.

34 mpg is Imperial.

28 mpg converted to US mpg.

Check out the R32 numbers for the UK market:

Still a big difference. But if you've got enough cash to burn for an S3, fill ups shouldn't really be too worrisome.

And the difference is only 5mpg as the R32 is 18/23 ... but ya I'd rather have the turbo'd 2.0 in the S3 as well.

5 mpg is a lot! R32s get crappy mileage in the real world too. I'm guessing you can actually get 28mpg in an S3 where you are stuck with 19mpg in an R32. That's almost 10 mpg, which is definitely a lot.

That's a hot 2-door hatch. The direct injected 2.0L turbo engine rocks at this 260HP power level.
If VW was paying attention to the market, it would drop the V6 engine in the R32 and replace it with the 260-HP 2.0L turbo engine. They could call it R20T.

I...WANT. Audi, bring it over here or I will be forced to drive a remote-controlled 1969 VW Beetle laden with rotten fish through the main doors of your corporate offices.

I just remembered for 09 you can get an S3 wit ha 2.0t with Quattro, the only draw back is the DSG tranny would would need to be upgraded before any major power mods.
