Default h6 swap question

swapping in a ez30d into my97 lgt and i need a wiring harness and ecu, ive been told i need to get the vin from the car the motor came out of. is this true? i searched and there are 2 seperate ecus for the legacy the motor came out of. i cant get the vin for the car, is there any other way to find out what i will need?

1. If you are doing the EZ30D(01-04) then you won't need the vin code for anything. If you are going to a parts department they are just looking up the cars as though they were still in the original Legacy. If it's an EZ30R(05+) then you may want ot consider standalone ECU instead as all the parts to have to be retro fitted may not be in your budget or desired amount of work. Ask around to some of the people that have already done and finished the same engine swap you are and see what they'll say. If it is EZ30D then I would send a message to Anders8 as he was basicly the grandfather of that one. I know there are a few other D build out there but most that are done, soon to be done, or getting working are R builds. I tried to go the path of OEM ECU though while I may go back to this before I'm done right now I'm looking at either a Element Hydra Nemesis 2.6 or a Link G4 Extreme.
2. If you can find a shop to do the wiring, do it! Reguardless try to source a new harness even if it's gonna get cut up. I'm gonna be laying in the whole Chasis harness as I'm stripping out all the old anyways in my GF.
3.However nice it would be to get our own little world for H-6 swaps it's only a small part of the game and leaving us in the normal conversion area lets us get feedback from non-H-6er's. Sometimes you just have to use the search feature and dig throug everything.
4. Just keep reading EVERYTHING you can. Also ask anyone you can for help or to get answers to questions. Even if you have to send PMs to grumpy people.
Good luck and keep us posted
