Smile Exhaust swapping (interchange) question.

I was wondering if exhaust parts are interchangeable between manufactures? For instance there is a down pipe, mid pipe, and cat back. Some manufactures have an axel back as well. That part is just the muffler.

The reason I ask this question is because I have a BPM MKIII turbo back. It is one of the best sounding exhausts IMO. The only problem is it is too loud for me. I was thinking of trying to find a cat back or an axel back from another manufacturer and swap them out. I donít want to lose the BPM down pipe because I am very fond of the design.

I was even thinking of putting the OEM muffler back on to see if that helped. I just have not had a chance to crawl under the car yet and see if it would work.

No, the silencer does not help that much.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

The Stromung system is completely interchangeable with the stock pieces. you can choose what you want to replace. Fit is exact.
I replaced the front midpipe (removing the 3rd cat), left the center midpipe (resonator) stock, and replaced the muffler with Stromung pieces. No CEL's, better sound, and definitely increased midrange.
Not sure what would happen if you replaced the downpipe with a stromung catless piece, since the O2 sensor is after that section, and you might get a CEL.....
