Default Atp3071 vs Tomei 7760

and now here is why i LOVE the ATP turbos!

These cars are very similar, see below

Tomei car had

- Tomei M7760 Turbo (TD05H-20G equivalent)
- Deatchwerks 740cc Side-feed injectors
- NGK 1-step colder plug
- Prodrive BCS
- gimmick motorsports silicone inlet
- gimmick motorsports after maf hose
- COBB 65mm SF intake + Airbox
- Tomei 4-1 unequal length header
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- COBB catted downpipe
- Fujitsubo RM-01S (SUS/Titanium hybrid version of RM-01A) catback.
- Thermotec turbo blanket + downpipe wrap
- STOCK TMIC

3071 had

- ATP 3071 internal gate
- Deatchwerks 740cc Side-feed injectors
- NGK 1-step colder plug
- Prodrive BCS
- APS inlet hose
- Crap ass Hot air HKS intake (maxxed)
- some unequal length header
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- COBB catted downpipe
- Injen catback.
- STOCK TMIC

the 3071 was spooling a bit slower since this was a cold run (header wise)
vs the Tomei which was right after another pull. It was hot as ***** today and i had to let the air temps come down after each pull ( stupid hot air intake)

Stock TMIC & 91 Ca pisswater gas

ARMS ~ 20g
3071 ~ 30R

3071 is a bigger turbo.. so that makes sense, doesn't it?

Barely

3071= 47lb/min
20g/tomei= 44lb/min

Tomei sell for $1700 ish
3071 sell for $1700 ish

they spool near identically, yet one makes 40 more whp @ 2-3 psi less...........

Stay tuned for an 08 WRX w a FMIC and a 3071 :-p

meh $1700 for a turbo that makes less tq than a VF43/48 and only 10-20 whp more?
OR $1700 for a turbo that makes the same Tq and 50-60 whp more using less boost

First off... what cars were these setups on?? Am I missing something? I can't find whether these are WRX's or STi's.. 2.0's or 2.5's..
I'm going to guess these are 06+ WRXes.

The tomei is a good, fast spooling turbo. Might be slightly overpriced, but it's definately better than a VF series
Also.. the M7760 is designed for the 207, not the 257.

VERY different beasts.

Also, this was done on 91.

is this on a 2.0 or 2.5? with the gt3071r 18psi at 4k doesn't seem that bad if it's a 2.0l but if it's a 2.5l then i dont know that seems a little laggy? not too sure about it because i dont have a 2.5l but im just saying so dont flame on me if i'm wrong.

i really do like the powerband if it's on a 2.0 though.. but i've been realllllyy looking into the atp gt3076r for my stock ej205. i wanted a turbo that would give me full spool by 4500 and give me massive topend. i see a few people running greens on their 2.0ls but this atp gt3076r looks promising unless if it's going to spool like at 5k lol then it probably wont be worth it.

Any idea how the spool would be with one of these Atp 3071's on an EJ207?

nevermind i guess it should be right on a 2.5l. i only thought that was a little laggy because a lot of these atp 3071r threads say you get a little quicker spool and the power of a 20g..

One small correction is that the Tomei is really a TD05H 20G, not a TD06H. Tomei spools faster than the regular TD06H 20G, and gives up a little max power.

Compared with a TD06H 20G the 3071 will still put down a little more power and boost better according to folks who have tuned them. The question is whether the 3071 is worth the extra $$$.

Just wondering.. are there any 20G variants that have journal bearings or can hold boost to ~8500 rpm?

thanks for reminding me. This set is on a 2.5l though right?

So the spool should be the same or sooner with a heated header?

WTF Kind of customers do you have Jon.....stock TMIC's and catted downpipes!!?!?!?

These people know that once their car is modified that it wont pass visual anyway so keeping the cat is wetoddid.

You should take the ebay TMIC off my wrx there and slap it on one of these cars to see if the ebay crap actually works.....

Retail on the Tomei unit is $1760, that's not what it sells for. The ATP 3071 does sell for $1895 according to ATP.

Also the ATP 3071 comes with a step down but to use it effectively needs a 3" inlet pipe so add that to the cost.

The Tomei unit is designed for peak performance when used with the correct combination of parts not a restrictive combination set-up to pass emissions inspections.

On our test car the Tomei unit made 22psi by 3400rpm in 3rd gear. I would like to see the 3071 even come close to that. If you would lose the catted down pipe on these cars you would see an even bigger difference in spool time.

The ATP 3071 is a nice turbo but it's slower spool doesn't suit everyone's driving needs.

Ill gladly take 4-500 rpm of boost threshold for 50 whp @ 6500 thanks.... Imagine if we ran 2 psi more .... or a full 3" catless exhaust and a tmic.........lol
