Default burning smell coming from my wife's forester...

coolant and oil levels are fine...haven't checked the AT fluid yet. car idles a tad shaky, doesn't really smell until well after the engine has warmed up...to me it smells like burnt celery if that makes sense...i haven't noticed any leaks from the car although i haven't crawled all the way under yet.

any thoughts? thanks.

Sounds like you have a leaking CV boot. The grease from the boot is likely leaking onto the exhaust causing the burning smell. It is probably the passenger side inner boot.

You should be able to see it if you look thru the engine bay down onto the axle. Follow the axle to where it meets the transmission. You will see a rubber boot and should see the grease on the axle.

You need to also take into account mileage, not just time. Some people can go 50,000 miles in a year.

You need to also check and make sure it was done correctly and a part did not fail. It's possible

Get under there and take a look. It could be PS fluid or anything else that got loose or found it's way under there.

It might not even be a car problem. I had a plastic bag go underneath my car, and get stuck to the exhaust. Stunk like crazy!
