Hey folks, I need some help. If someone gets a chance, could you go and measure the length and height of the Outback Sport badge on the back of your car?

Unfortunately, my OBS was hit in a parking lot a week, guy was drinking coffee and driving on the wrong side of the road, clipped the front from the side and took the bumper, grill, fogs, etc right of the front of the car. Anyway, as it's at the bodyshop, hopefully getting paint on Tuesday, I can't take the measurements myself.

Thanks!

yeah. although i hear about people blowing there struts primarily with STI pinks; according to HnR and the peeps at perrin, the HnR spring were made for the stock shock/struts (granted its all hearsay to me).

specs on springs - 1.4in drop at front, 1.3in drop at rear via website, and
"They are roughly 5% softer than stock at ride height to improve freeway ride quality, and then max out at 45% stiffer than stock at full compression. So they work really well!" from adam at perrin.

Yo, I also heard about people blowing struts on pinks. I saw on tireracks site they sell HnR and they Strongly recommend aftermarket struts/shocks. I had a few cars with just springs and they were fine and the drop was much more dramatic. I'm looking forward to hearing how you like them and to seeing some installed pics. Thanks

Did you measure it already? I can get to it when I get home tonight if you still need it.

I didn't, it would be great if you could. I'm of the mind for a bit of a de-badge - re-badge once I get the car back (hopefully Thursday), and if I can get those measurements I can get started earlier. Thanks, much appreciated!

Okay, please note that I have the rear bumper step, so my dimensions from the bottom are including that....

Let's use this image as a base (thanks cars101.com, sorry the image is hot).

From the bumper guard to the bottom of the P in Sport, 1 1/4"
From the bumper guard to the bottom of the O in Outback, 3 3/8"
From the door line on the right to the top of the k in Outback, 1 7/8" (Stay parallel to the top of the Outback)
From the door line on the right to the bottom of the k in Outback, 1 3/8" (Stay parallel to the bottom of the Outback)

Hope that helps!

Thanks! I think I can figure out what I need from that. I was looking more for the length of the word "Outback" and the height of the badge from the bottom of the "P" in sport to the top of the "Outback" lettering, but I think this will give me enough of an idea to run with.

Much appreciated!

After that, I would go with a short shift kit if you have a 5-speed.

Well, finally ordered a sway bar. Just went with the WRX bar, end links, bushings, etc. Figured mine as well keep as many factory parts on there - not that it really makes it better or not. But any rear sway bar has got to be better than nothing.

So, anyone know for sure how big the stock '09 WRX rear sway bar is? I thought I read one place that it was 16mm and another that it was 20mm. 20mm sounds a little big for a stock rear bar, but what do I know...

Let me know how it works out since I'm planning to do exactly the same thing. Pretty much just using all stock parts.

If you can, that would be great. But if you don't get to it, no problem. I should have my car back tomorrow (fingers crossed) so I can do it then.

I think that the 09 OEM WRX rear sway is 18mm. If I can get my hands on some calipers, I'll crawl underneath my car this weekend and check. I believe the 08 OEM rear sway is 15 or 16mm.

In other sway bar news, I emailed Rallitek and confirmed that they have, in fact, changed the design of the front sways that they have listed for the 08+ NA Imprezas, and they will now fit both the sedan and the hatch. These are the 22F/19R (or maybe 18R?) set. I have a follow-up question in to see if their track set (25F/22R) will also fit the NA Imprezas. I'll let you know when I hear anything. Even if the bigger bars won't fit, 22F/19R is a HUGE impovement over stock.

after more research with people blowning there stock struts with aftermarket springs- its gotten me paranoid regarding blowning mine too... either way, i plan to install my HnR springs, but just look into aftermarket struts too (as a contingency).

anyone with personal experience regarding any of this? for the 08-09 impreza OBS?

Lots of folks (08-09 2.5i and 08 WRX owners) seem to upgrade to the '09 WRX struts. That would be my eventual plan once I get around to upgrading the stock struts.

It's hard for me to pitch brand new struts without getting at least a few tens of thousands of miles out of them. After 20-30K, I'll get around to it.

The 09 wrx struts are valved much better(better dampening). I don't believe the ride height will be changed at all.

Since some want more pictures, here is my 08. I've had it for almost a year and still love it. It definitely helped me get through the Wisconsin winter. I am still considering getting the sport grille. I kind of feel like the sport grille makes the car look more generic. I like the light interior because, yes, I have dogs that shed and it is harder to see against the light brown. I took the rails off after snapping these pics.

Looks good Cranker. I was wondering what the hood deflector looked like on the car. I don't see too many NPB OBS's running around. As for the sport grill, I was thinking about it too, but I figured it would let in too much debris in the the engine. The stock grill waffle at least deflects any road debris.

The sport grill mesh is tighter than the stack waffle, I think, unless there is something behind the waffle on the stock grill that I haven't seen. I've had the sport grill on mine since day one and the only thing that's made it through my grill was a Ford Focus. That was not a fun morning. Luckily, only superficial cosmetic (i.e. non-structural) damage.
