Default Am I just an ass? Help me figure this out.

I'm feeling pretty weird about the whole NESIC situation. I post on their forum inviting them to the Dragon meet, and I've gotten a hugely negative response from them about it. This wouldn't normally bother me except for the fact that I've gotten PMs from other owners up there apologizing for the NESIC higher ups behavior and saying that they'd like to come to the event but aren't coming because they're afraid of being looked down on.

Here's one of the several examples:

Quote:
ashamed NESIC member

My name's ***** and I must say I'm a little ashamed to say I am part of Nesic after seeing the replies by a few of the obvious "higher ups" in our branch of the club. I can't believe they thought their comments were appropriate. There is a difference between nicely saying "Sorry thats not for us" and totally shooting down something that you have obviously put quite a large amount of care and consideration into to insure peoples safety. To think that something like this can't posssibly happen without casualty is quite close minded and hard headed as far as im concerned. Yes, we have had problems with caravans in the past and thats because this is the way our caravans are organized: "Ok everyone, meet here at 9:00 and then by 9:30 we'll hop on the highway..." And once on the highway, because there is no predefined structure to the driving, it becomes an everyman for himself driving show. I appreciate the thoroughness of your planning for this event, and would do anything in my power to be able to go ***************** ********** *********** ********** ********* Gee, and driving down a twisty road with some friends is suppose to be more dangerous... funny all the times I've been out driving briskly with groups of friends was where i was the most focused on my driving, and the only accidents I've been in have been barely moving on regular roads. Go figure. I was initially thinking of trying to coax a fellow NESIC member to go so I could tag along but unfortunately I'm a little worried about being looked down upon for wanting to go.

Anyway next year I'll be there with bells on *********, until then speed safely and have fun out there.

Sincerely,
*****

I like the guys in the NESIC, please do NOT go on their forum and post about this or start a flame war or anything. I just wanted to make the Southeast members aware that our level of safety and responsibility has been called into question. This is obviously a major sticking point for people or they wouldn't be so rude about the issue.

The NESIC thread is here: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=126847

I repeat, do NOT post in their forum.

I'm just looking for you guys' input on this topic. I got an almost identical response from the Southwest forum when I posted there. Are we really being ******** for inviting them? Or what?

Help me understand this.

Who cares what other people think about you ... if you're true to yourself who cares what other's think. I had to learn this over the last few years and my theory is ... I enjoy what I do and not trying to impress other people. I am true to myself and others ... if someone is being a dork about it then let it be because I really don't care what other's think. You were being nice and invited people to join and meet others w/ the same interest. If they are having a cow about it then let them be. I'm gonna be there and have a blast as long as it doesn't rain .

I could care less what they think of me personally. I care about what people think about the event. If the Dragon Challenge is to have any lasting appeal as a national meet, if we are to revisit it in the years to come, it is pretty critical that it retain a good public image as a fun, nonthreatening event.

In this case, we suddenly have a national event where old school I-clubbers are DISCOURAGING newer owners from attending. That's pretty Fk'd up to me.

Porter - Just read the whole post and frankly was surprised at the "higher up's" that were against this meet. I think they are failing to realize that this is first & foremost a meet, the runs on the wonderful local roads are just icing on the cake. They do not understand that these will only be brisk drives on these roads, not full on tarmac time-trial hillclimbs (or decents ).

I will be the first one to stop my car and beat someone's ass for driving irresponsibly...I for one will have my wife and daughter with me...do you think I'm going there to risk their lives? No, I'm going to enjoy the Scooby folks, see some great natural sites, kick some ass in GT3 and drive some pretty cool roads...as far as driving crazy...I'll leave that for the following weekend at the Petersburg ProSolo!

Don't let them get under your skin, they are probably just worried that we are going to break their meet record! How are talks with GRM coming? Is David Wallens coming out? (Hint...hint David! )

I say, delete the post.

They should know by now that they can read it here. No sense in starting a forum war.

Its a meet and people will drive the Dragon. Plain and simple.

And there will be much rejoicing and GT3 and beer...mmmmm wonderful beer.

I'm going to have a Guiness in 30mins for you Porter.

Want the truth? I think things may have gotten a little asslike on both sides there at the end. I fully plan to be there that Saturday and run with you guys, but I also plan to be very careful about it, mostly because of all the new faces that'll be there. You certainly won't see ME setting any land speed records through there.

BTW, sorry I missed you at CT. Hope the Saabaru's doing well.

Yep, asslike on both sides. Are you saying you would have responded differently to what amounts to personal attacks? KC actually called me "boy".

THESE ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE I-CLUB AN UNFRIENDLY PLACE. THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. MORE OF THEM LIVE IN THE SOUTHWEST I-CLUB REGION AND HAVE "MODERATOR" WRITTEN UNDER THEIR NAMES. IF THEY WEREN'T AROUND, WE WOULDN'T HAVE AN RS25.COM OR A CLUBWRX.COM BECAUSE PEOPLE WOULD STILL BE HAPPY WITH THE CLUB WE USED TO HAVE.

Once the Dragon event is over, I think I'm going to leave I-club permanently. This kind of behavior is the whole reason we have moderators, and they seem more hellbent on controlling cross-posts and elite capitalization than their real job, which is curbing personal attacks and general misbehavior on the part of specific users.

Oh wait, Fishguy is just as guilty of this kind of childish behavior. I forgot.

I'm so sick of this crap. This board has gone to hell in a ****ing handbasket, and after 3 1/2 years of spending my time and ****ing energy and ****ing money to promote it and help people out and ****, I'm ****ing through with it. I wonder how much ****ing money these guys donated to Nick to keep the place running when the server needed an upgrade and we ran out of money for bandwidth and ****? I gave. Let's see their contributions.

I'll finish this Dragon project and then I'm gone unless something is done to control this kind of bull****.

:monkey: to KC and Pilot and DannyAtWork and Kastle and all the other bastards who gave me snide ******* responses to my cordial invitation. You can stick my "crosspost" right up your tight puritan asses!

**** you!

Don't do it. The thread just got excellent closure from WebKris. He's the man. I like his comments.

Please don't attack anyone in the NESIC. I've said my piece here. They can come read it if they wish.

Hey Porter,

Sorry to see the thread go the way it did, but anyway...the real reason I'm here. Umm...You might want to remove that person's PM. Removing their name doesn't help them much. Not too many people have had what was described in that PM happen to them, so it's pretty easy to figure out who that is. And they may not want you to be posting it.

Good luck with your meet!!!

the dragon is going to suck anyways. i'd probably get stuck behind a whole bunch of slow sightseers. then again, the cops are probably writing out their speed ticket fund wish list in anticipation of this event. i was really disappointed that all the wrxs at the knights stadium autox put out slow times. is this going to be a race like pace or just a nature cruise?

Hey, play nice brat..there are still those that will be attending...the issue in nesic is they've had no luck with caravans, accidents and such have been known to happen. People will go and whoever that guy was that om'ed you is a ***** for not stating his opinion publicly..I hope whoever it is is reading this. Be a man(I say man because it's more likely) and voice an opinion, go if you want to other nesicer's are going, but don't not go for fear of being an outcast this isn't highschool.

I think there were some valid points being made in the begining about saftey and such and not just about i-clubbers but all the people that will be there that weekend to drive. I for one wouldn't want anything to happen to me that far from home or take my family to what could be a potentially dangerous situation...which Porter you made it sound like with all the talk here and on other boards about it.

I'm sure not agreeing with the way the thread turned out or was handled by either side.

I also have no problem with being "looked down upon" by other members.

Have fun, be safe to when nothing bad happens and everyone had a great time to can show everyone who doubted what they missed.

Until then most of us won't judge...just remember common sense, cause **** happens.

Jason, I wouldn't have handled things differently at all. It's just a pity that things got so confrontational in there. Way to stick to your guns.

Kris, that's just it. I didn't ask them if they wanted to come run a tarmac stage on the WRC! I asked them if they wanted to come hang out with other Scooby owners and meet people from all over the country and have a bonfire and a GT3 tournament etc. etc. etc. and MAYBE even take a ride at a decent pace along a completely rural highway far away from any kind of congestion.

My invitation was cordial and very well meaning... their responses were rude and intended to dissuade others from attending the event. Just because you guys have some crazy ****s in the NE who have ruined a mountain drive before, doesn't give you the right to **** all over our event. Opinions are welcome. Attacks are not.

After putting several HUNDRED hours into preparation for this event, you'll have to excuse me if I feel that an attack on the event is an attack on me. I think anyone can understand that.

By the way, I've seen that link before. What are you trying to point out? About the accident with the police officer who killed the biker on purpose? Or what? It's terrible, the sportbike community is up in arms about it and I heard that they were talking about suing the police department up there in a class action lawsuit for generalized endangerment.

Hey Tara, good to see you!

Listen, if something were to happen to you or your car while you were down here, I would personally cash frequent flier miles to get you and your gear home.

The same goes for ANYONE who is coming to the event. If something unfortunate happens and their car needs repair, I WILL FLY THEM ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES FREE OF CHARGE.

I am not bull****ting you.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT OUR EVENT. I WILL MAKE THIS THING HAPPEN AND NO BAD ATTITUDE WILL STOP ME.
