Default 92 legacy turbo trouble shooting question

Im having an issue with my legacy starting. It cranks over but doesnt fire up right away, I crank it over probably 5-8 times and pump the accelerator before it finally kicks over and starts. Does that sound like a FPR problem? or a MAF problem? Once it starts it runs fine, so because of that Im pretty positive its getting enough spark. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Grant

How long have you had the problem? Do you have a hard time starting all the time, or only when the engine is cold or hot?

Hard starting issues on the first gen legacy while the engine is either cold or hot are typically caused by a faulty/old coolant temp sensor.

yeah its been hard to start real regularly, a buddy told me it could be a few things. the CEL light has been coming on and off also. at this point I too think its a fuel pump issue. i replaced the o2 sensor because i was getting 200 miles to a full tank. i was told that a corroded ground on the fuel pump might be to blame. that sound like a possibility?

First thing you should do is check the ECU for codes. You could be chasing your tail or going in the wrong direction. See what codes come up on the ECU.

Instructions to pull the codes are on my site

Why spend time guessing? Why ask the forum? Ask the car! It's trying to tell you something....

Pull the code. Tell us what you find.

yup cheack for voltage at fuel pump, and check for resistance across the fuel pump, from fuel pump to ground and also check the fuel pressure

fyi also check the fuel pump relay

I pulled 9 different codes from the ecu, apparently water got into the harness when the motor was cleaned so the ECU was fried. All the sensors and fuel pump checked out fine. Apparently 1 out of 10 cars this happens to. Is there a better way to clean the motor with out this happening again?
