Default Offering help for Emanage Tuning

Mods, please don't move this as it only really applies to 93-01 Imprezas.

As some of you know I'm quite familiar with the e-manage, my last setup was an ej20 block, with 2.2 heads, delta regrind cams, 1.8 intake 370cc injectors, and 1.8 ecu. I was tuned up to 17psi before the td04l ran out of steam.

I have remotely configured a couple of E-Manages and would like to offer the same to others. Basically I'm not asking for money, (not that I would deny it) just wanting to help others get started. It takes about an hour or so which I connect to your laptop while you are in your car (wi fi needed of course) and I'll go over the settings and help you get started.

If you are in or around Vegas I would even help out with additional tuning.

Is this something anyone would be interested in? If so, PM or email me and we can set up a time. MOD's, if this gets enough interest, feel free to sticky.

Chad

Yeah, you will need to set the injector sizing. On the emanage I tuned last night that was enough. On mine, I had to pull -35 from across the MAF table.

I can login to your laptop around 5pm Pacific Time M-F, email me to setup a time.

NastyImpreza, as long as you have a WIFI connection, I can login to your laptop while it's plugged into your car and help you get started with the Emanage tuning. That's the point of this thread.

well, once I actually get an e-manage in and build up a motor, I will definitely be looking for some help. Perhaps by next spring....

Awesome. this is pretty cool of you, subachad. I am in phx az and have put a bunch of info in a thread (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1575752) in this forum about install, but I have been working on the tune for a loooong time now. Car is very drivable and get's to 14 lbs of boost in 3rd and if I am in 4th, 18 lbs, but it my afr's are pretty inconsistent. I have the fuel trims fairly close, mostly +/- 3-4% but there are random 10%'s in obscure cells.

I have all the settings dialed in, but if you like, I can email you my most recent map so you could check it out. Or, let me know if you want to login remotely.

Sounds like you have it pretty well figured out. if you want to send me your map and also a log file of a 1st gear through 3rd gear pull, I'll check it out.

You might want to turn the boost down a little. I noticed I had to take away so much timing at 17+ psi that extra boost no longer gave me power. Once tuned at 17psi in 110+ degree heat, I dialed it back to 14psi to keep it safe.

Where are your "obscure" cells?

One thing to note is you can not subtract fuel using the fuel map, you have to subtract fuel using the MAP/MAF adjustment.

Yeah I have setup a few cars this way. Park within range of a WIFI spot, go to www.crossloop.com, download the free program and from the comfort of my couch, I can connect to your laptop while it's connected to your car. I can't do any road tuning for you like this, but I can help configure it and give you some pointers on tuning.

Well, you'll see when you see how my files are configured. I have the injector jumpers set to add and subtract. I have a complete EJ20G (motor, not ECU) in there with Sti side feed yellow tops, that thread I linked to has more details. So my IJ map starts around -40 and transitions into lower numbers as the boost RPM's increase. It idles like butter and drives pretty nice, but I guess I am uncertain what afr's I should shoot for in areas where the boost comes up faster than the rpms so I hit full boost before I would If I was launching and going through 1-2-3 gears.

The obscure cells I am referring to are on my factory ECU. I can drive around like I always do and never see a long term more that say -5. Then, if i coast in gear with just enough throttle to keep the injectors firing, I see a -10 here and there. I note what cells I'm in in tte ultimate, and accelerate and once I am back on them, the fuel trims are fine. It's something you would prob have to see while sitting in my car.

Also, do you use the speed correction map? If so, how do you have it setup? Dial the car in for 1-2-3 and then adjust the speed map for 4 and 5?

Anyway, I will email you the file I have setup and a screen shot that indicates some questions I have, easier with pictures.

doesn't look like you need my help. Now unless something changed, I don't see how you are subtracting fuel using the injector map. The way it's wired in there is no way it can "pull" from the electric pulse, only add to it... that said it's possible newer versions are allowing fuel to be pulled by actually modifying the airflow map.

One thing I should have mentioned in my original post is how to determine knock. Here is an article that will help you build a damn good knock detector for $20.

haha, I'm always open for suggestions/information, so I'll send you what I got anyways, if you don't mind. Thanks for the link on the knock detector, I will be doing that soon since I am still pulling so much timing for safety.

But yeah, if you watch the INJ in and INJ out in the logging software, i see 1.4 in and about .8 out to accomodate my 440 injectors. if the car is running with my Scanner hooked up, you can enter -10 in the cells it's idling it and watch the fuel trims add 10 to make up for it. Maybe the 2.XX I have is different than the older versios.

I used that article as as a guide to build me knock detector with a similar device called "listen up" and shielded microphone wire and an alligator clip from Radio Shack. Works Awesome, thanks for that tip.

Any experience with LinkPlus?

I bought ai42's old 94 (you built the up and dp)

Here is what im running, minus the tons of susp/brake upgrades

EJ18 (stock engine, stock heads, stock everything)
TD04 Turbo (boosting at 12 psi)
Link Plus EMS (custom wired in, all functionality works, A/C works etc)
Legacy Turbo 370cc Injectors
2002 WRX fuel pump
Ebay special FMIC kit
TurboXS Bypass valve Type H34

Exhaust:
Subachad Up-pipe/Downpipe
Custom 2.5" midpipe w/ high flow catalytic converter
Blitz Nur Spec Axle-back exhaust

My current tune was done by Shawn, but its really really rich, and killing the MPG and im sure its robbing a few horsepower. Currently the boost is set at 14psi but it will soon go up to 15-17 once the new clutch is in. Any pointers/tips I should know about this setup? Ive been running the tune/setup for the past 90k miles (no exaggeration) and the only thing that ive had to replace was the turbo. It really says alot for the ej18 engine.

yeah the ej18 is solid. As for the tune, can't really help you as I have only really messed with the E-Manage. The trick to MPG is to get your idle and cruise set to around 15:1.

Hey Subachad... I might have a challenge for you! You still up for helping out some Subies with EManages?

http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92852

I'm expecting to finally have it installed tomorrow. It "should" be pushing boost into the system. I plan to try and setup a pretty fat and safe initial map, and attempt to make use of the LC-1 A/F unit too. But, I'm always ready and willing for a little more help.

Up to trying to remote tune for a SCd Impreza?

I haven't been here in a while and I only miss a thread by a week... nice. SC RS, nice, wouldn't think tuning would be much different than turbo, same rules still apply. Your maps would just begin adding fuel earlier... then again around 2500 RPM the fuel and timing modifications are quite high anyway.

This is great help! I'm trying to figure out what route to go for EMS with my hybrid setup. Right now I'm running off an OBD1 EJ22T ECU that gets me by and provides plenty of fun but I know the car needs a good tune. Do you see a lot of eManage's pass through your area? I might be interested in buying one that was programmed to get my car to run, then I could take it from there with the rest of the tuning process.
