Default Google G1 - Reviews and Applications.

Came earlier today, 2 days before I anticipated.

Anyone else receive theirs yet?

Any apps out for download yet?

Don't worry PM, I will write something up in a bit here. I literally just took it out of the box about an hour ago and am still familiarizing myself with it .

TMO told me that 25k units will be sent out for the original release date of Oct 22nd. They speculated that the next batch due out Nov. 11th will already have changes applied.

There really is no G2 in a way. The whole google thing is not tied to one phone like the iPhone. Its just an O/S like windows mobile. There will be more phones running this soon.

x2 The HTC thing is big and bulky. Not to mention I want exchange support and a danm headphone jack...

I know exchange support is coming. But not at launch = no point in me looking.

They wouldn't specify. I know that the USB headphones were supposed to be included in the second batch. However, I got a set with my phone. There is no bluetooth stereo headphone capability yet, that is also speculated to change. I'd imagine that would be nothing more than a firmware upgrade though.

My initial impressions...

-Phone contour is much better than I anticipated. Reviews said it was bulky and the beveled side was intrusive for texting. I didn't find that to be the case at all. The keyboard is great since I have large fingers.

-The OTS youtube application is worse than apple's.

-The 3g network is effin' fast, damn near instant. I don't know if that is due to minimal useage, or that I am in a heavy populated area, but it beats the hell out of AT&T from what I have seen so far.

-The browser is great.

-The auto sync feature with gmail is great. Update your contacts on the PC and bam! it appears right on your phone contact list.

I will report back when I get to the media player.

-Drank

Well...of course it is. TMo's not going to release a subsidized phone that can be taken elsewhere right off the bat. However, if you've had TMO for 3 months, they'll unlock a phone for you for free. I've got TMo prepaid(I avg like $15-20/month on useage, so don't need a monthly plan). I've had them unlock phones for me that I've had on the account for 3-4 days.

20 bucks IIRC for the 3g network. 500 text and pix messages are included. Unlimited messaging was something like an additional $5.

Sweet, can't wait till mine comes in the mail. Then I'll have to decide whether to keep or sell the G1. Still have my trusty T-Mo Wing, even though it's had it's share of problems.

Can't wait for some third party app to allow the G1 to sync with Exchange.
