Has anybody gotten the PnP or Ceramic Coating from Blouch??
Wondering if it's worth the cost:
$50 ceramic coating of the turbine housing
$95? for PnP

Anybody using a Turbo jacket?

I did not get my 19t from Blouch, but it was ported, polished, and coated. I don't know of the coating does much. I'm sure it retains a little more heat, but the stock heatshield is still better for protecting the intercooler from radiant heat. The port and polish of the turbine inlet and outlet was awesome. That's probably one of the major reasons I was able to clip the turbine wheel and still retain stock-like boost response. You'll probably get a better result sending your turbo to Grimmspeed for port and polish. I don't think Blouch does any polishing and I think they only port the turbine outlet.

For what Grimm is charging for their service, I would recommend getting a bigger turbo. There is no way their performance claims are legitimate and polishing is not going to do anything for the flow. It's just aesthetics of the finished product. There's not enough material you can remove to make a difference. Unless Grim can show a CFD model to disprove me you just can't make power from nothing. Same wheel pushes the same air mass.

You retain stock boost response because you have a stock turbo housing and because you got it tuned. I gained 500 rpm earlier spool going from OTS to a custom tune.

^agreed. I haven't seen enough evidence of porting/polishing providing worthwhile gains to bother. It still takes the same pressure differential pre/post turbine wheel to get x psi of boost.

And just to reiterate for those who haven't read the whole thing. This will not spool up as fast as an unmodified stock turbo. It simply is not possible. When you clip the turbine wheel you are loosing surface area on which work can be done on the turbine wheel, to gain more total discharge through the unit to help higher RPM flow. It will be close, but don't be surprised to see it lag behind 100-200 RPM or so.

The blouch upgrade DOES consist of both the compressor upgrade AND the turbine clip. At least when I called them about it, they do not even sell the upgrade without being clipped, as it creates "too much of a mismatch" in mikes words, and they would not even warranty it.

As far as worrying about "area under the curve" between the 19T and a 16G/VFXX variant. Let me put it this way, the only "area" you are loosing out on is the difference in the two curves of the 19T and 16G/VFXX to left of the peak boost RPM of the 16G/VFXX. This means once the 16G/VFXX has reached full boost, any power the 19T is making over the 16G/VFXX is because the 16G/VFXX is not being pushed to the same boost level, or some other aspect of the tune is suffering. From peak boost on a 16G/VFXX will ALWAYS make MORE power given the same mods/fuel/good tune.

I considered one of these turbos for my car for a long time as I do a lot of autox and rallyx where quick spool is essential. In the end I went with a vf36 and could not be happier even though the cost is more.

Red line is current setup after we changed to a better dump pipe and higher flowing cat. 285hp if you can't be bothered converting.

Just gave Blouch to go ahead for the 19T upgrade on the TD04 I sent in.
Just FYI: the upgrade price is now $395.....not including fixing any problems with the turbo you send in....

I got a Walbro pump and 07 STI blue Inj.
Grimmspeed EBCS, GS Up, GS PnP maniifolds, Invidia DP

The 19t turbo won't go in until April 21 when I take the car to the tuner down in Mass for the install and tune.

Ok so I got my car on the dyno at Efi and here what I got .
02 wrx 115000 5s
Td04 19T H wheel and yes there are more mods .
Mustang Dyno report 258 Tq 3800 rpm
255 Hp 6300 rpm

I will post up the report later on,
The numbers are not bad but I know that it could of make more(how?), Well I did a compression test in Feb and got 120 psi in each ,yes its low but all read the same thats the good part, but if I did my math right I could of gotten close to 297 Tq and 301 hp if each cylinder was at 160psi
If I am wrong please correct me.

I've been following this thread for quite some time and decided to give this a whirl.

I had installed a small 16g and was very unimpressed - spool time sucks....4100rpm 20psi.....that's not what I was hoping for.

So I'm going back to my TD04 with the 19t upgrade. I sent it off three weeks ago and look what arrived today!!

All I can say is WOW! this thing looks brand new, very nice work.

I do have some questions for you all.. I'm going for "spool like a son ova bitch". So I could use your input.

Current mods include

PnP exhaust manifolds,
Grimmspeed crossover pipe
Grimmspeed uppipe
Invidia divorced bellmouth downpipe
Greddy SP2 cat back
STI JDM V7 intercooler with scoop and splitter
Gimmick turbo inlet (would not recommend to anyone)
TGV deletes
Dark Blue injectors
Walbro FP
Grimmspeed EBCS

Is my crossover pipe going to kill my spool? I've heard mixed results.
Is there anything else I should change to minimize my spool time?

and the pics!

Grimmspeed crosspipe will not kill your spool up and I would go cat less also but thats just my 1c

No ceramic coat ....I don't think, they just rebuilt it and did the upgrade. But I'm now wondering if they did, can't quite tell it just looks super clean.
I had pnp'd it beforehand, but it looks like they cleaned it up.
Very impressed with the work.

not sure exactly what is stock and what isn't.
I do know the wheel is clipped (think that's what you meant.)

And yes, I hope i love it!

The lag on the 16g was horrendous - 4100rpms 20psi - was hoping for much better.

Hopefully this gets me under 3k rpms full spool.

Do you have any idea of why your system was so laggy when others are seeing that amount of boost at least 500 RPM sooner on the small 16G in 3rd gear? I hate to see you downgrade to try and fix a problem with the wrong solution. Even on my slushbox 4EAT I see that amount of boost by 3700 RPM in 2nd gear.

I would double check your boost control system and tune, as whatever was hindering your spool on the small 16G could very well hold you back with this as well.

Hey Thanks Trin,

I also got a Greddy Sprectrum Elite Catback showing up today ($625 delivered from Image Import...thanks Josh!)...Yeah!...more presents for me!!!

I'm looking forward to getting the 19T in and the low end torque and no lag...but an alterior motive was that at my Tuner it's only half the price to swap out the same turbo as compared to installing a totally new/larger turbo....that saves me $500!...which more than payed for the 19T.

What are you using for tuning software? Are you going opensource, accessport, something else? If you're using RomRaider/ECUFlash PM me your email addy and I'll send you the ROM image from my 19T'd '05 WRX.

i have looked through this thread alot and even though i am way past the point of the smaller turbos like these, i did once have an experiance with a turbo of the sort, i believe it was originaly a saab turbo, but basically it was about the same turbo yall are getting made, with the 19t, but the biggest advantage it had a a TD04Hl like they have here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=150582749243

i went ahead and had a 16g wheel put in, and it ran great, 285-295whp on air boys if i remember correctly ( its been 2.5 years ) but the biggest advantage i saw was that it made 20 psi at 3200 rpms, in third, and 3000 in 4th, and i think i managed 22psi at 3000 in 5th, it was a monster for down low torque and great mid range.

some of the research i did before i bought it
http://www.saabscene.com/forum/index...topic=31609015

and here is some i posted, i was wrong it spooled faster, http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ghlight=td04hl

and pictures of said turbo
