Default tire balancing equipment

is there really a difference in road force balancing and does the balancing machine really make a huge difference in how the car feels?

most of the shops around here have the coats 10X series balancer
http://www.ammcoats.com/products_wheel.aspx?id=503
which seems to be the standard for higher volume shops

but i've always had issues(drive backs) with balancing 17 & 18" rims...whether it was due to a lazy tire place guy, or equipment, i don't know...i've never been 100% happy

is it of any benefit to seek out a shop with newer equipment?
like say a shop with a hunter GSP9700?
http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/features/how.cfm

i found a tire rack recm'd shop that uses this balancer + new hunter clamp and is active in BMW SCCA, which seems like a good place to go as i am sick of **** ups and bad alignments

I have used that hunter and I must say it is the ****. The best thing about it is when road force balancing it will tell you where to put each wheel in order to feel the least amount of vibration and if any wheel has any flat or high spots. Although unless you watch the technician use these specific features you cant be sure if it was done or not. It takes extra time and most probably use the hunter just like any other tire balancing machine. In the end if it is used its definitely worth it.
