Default Doing a Trans fluid change...found out I have a different trans?!?!

So after gathering everything to do my trans and rear diff I got my car up on stands, crawled under to undo the 21mm trans drain bolt and..hmm where is it? I coulda swore it should be right here.....oh wait why do I have a T70 torx drain bolt?

Car is a 2002 WRX which should have the 21mm drain plug, the t70 torx drain bolt was supplied to the 04+WRX's, 03+Legacy's and 03+Foresters. I really want to know why I dont have my stock trans in here and what model did it come from exactly. I figure Ive owned the car for 2 1/2 years and shes almost up to 100k so why complain, my guess is the previous owner took it in for service trans needed to be replaced and they didnt have a 02 in stock so threw in one of the above mentioned trans.

My question to any other 02-03 (bugeye) wrx owners, anyone else ave the t70 torx drain bolt or am I to assume I have a newer trans installed. My buddy and I have always wondered why my car accelerates faster and just feel stronger all around and I guess this could be a good explanation. We are both at identical stages and tuned by the same person using relativly the same map (minor adj. for each setup).

So ya anyone else pre 04 have a t70 drain bolt? I remember seeing a chart of the vin numbers and correlating years for source vehicles although I cant remember if it was just for engines only.

Anyone shed some light? appreciated.

Look up your tranny code on the tranny list that is a sticky thread for the answer. It also could be that the plug was swapped out by mistake or on purpose at the dealer during a fluid change so don't get all worked up.

Thanks dude

oh Im not worked up, Im rather stoked I have (possibly) a newer trans. Just wondering if any other bugeye owners have experienced the same thing. I will check the trans code.

ok did some digging.

My trans code is: 7Y TY754VN2BA

I have a transmission from:
US Impreza WRX MY03 TY754VN2BA 3.454 1.947 1.366 0.972 0.738 3.333 1.100 3.900 Viscous (4kgf) Open 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears widened to RA width

My car was mfg. mid 2002. So a 1 yr maybe 1/2yr newer and RA width 1,2, and 3 yet still its an 03 so the dealership most likely installed the 04+ style torx drain bolt.
